Security Camera channels
How are you guys with security channels doing?
I selected no lineup for these channels (two cameras), shich I have available from all four of my tuners. Now I have four channel 0s and four channel 59s... this looks horibble. I don't understand why they are listed as different channels if they are the same numbers and all have no data... |

Sorry I'm no help but I as well would love to be able to record my security cam channels. As of yet I've had no luck doing it with SageTV.

Since this such a common thing, the STV should have provisions for setting this up...
I had previous assigned another line up to the camera channels... I chose a satelite listing with a couple channels that had no real listing, such as a voiceprint channel. This was working fine, exept that line kept getting new channels added, so I was constantly having to go in the detailed setup and remove these undesired new channels. I'll state again that new channels should always be added as disabled... Also with regards to the additional lineup, when I removed it, bringing up my guide has become really quick now, much faster than before. Which makes me think that some optimization for pulling the guide data is lacking, since it was only two additional channels... |

I think the "right" solution would be to allow a custom, non-downloaded channel lineup that can be merged with the "normal" lineups. That way you just set up a .txt/.xml/whatever file that contains your special channels, and add it to whichever sources you want.

I just added a composite in on my tuner to a fixed channel, and scheduled re-occuring recordings in sage. seemed to work for me...
EDIT: This is how i use my X10 cameras w/ wireless senders/receivers. If you set up your cameras to record, make sure you step down your record quality to almost as low as you can go. Its a major disk hog if you plan on storing more than a week or so... I.

Security camera channels should work fine. We just used some at CEDIA a few weeks ago.
Just select the source and then choose to 'Do not configure programming guide data for this source'. Then it'll just be a single channel for composite/svideo that'll show up in the EPG.

Narflex, what about with multiple security channels distributed to all inputs - say 3-4 encoders, all fed from the same cable feed with multiple modulated channels inserted.
OK, that's clear as mud. Hypothetical situation: I have 3 PVR250's in my Sage Server. I have 4 security feeds modulated onto my basic cable feed. Each of the PVR250's is fed from the resulting combined feed. In order to be able to record multiple security feeds at once, I have to include all security channels in the lineups. It sounds like Sage has no way of knowing that each PVR250 is getting the same channel, so the channels appear multiple times in the guide. Or did I miss something obvious? Note that I don't yet have this setup, and I'm extrapolating from things that others have said. But it seems that without some sort of guide or lineup configuration for the security feeds, Sage doesn't know that they are all the same. |

Has anyone tried using the new "Add Channel to Lineup" in v3 for this? It will reuse the same channel if you enter the same channel name, so maybe that will end up keeping them as the same channel in the guide. Enter all 4 new channels on 1 tuner, then enter the same new channels on another lineup (unless all tuners use the same lineup anyway). I haven't tried such a setup... just suggesting something to try.

My camera channels are from a different input, so I don't think that will work...

OK, maybe this is a stupid question - and I apologize, I am not trying to hijack the thread so a quick answer is all I'm after here..
From what I am reading it sounds like I can do this: put a camera in my kid's room, and connect it to a tuner in the Sage PC. Then tune to a specific channel to display the camera feed on the TV. Is that correct? (Very cool if so). Last edited by InsertHere; 10-04-2005 at 05:41 PM. |

Yes, that can be done...

Second, you could take the video signal and modulate it, adding it to your cable signal. There are some technical issues involved, but the end result is that you could tune to the camera channel from any TV in the house, whether or not the TV was hooked to a SageTV client. The first is the simplest and cheapest, while the second gives you more flexability but at the cost of more money and effort. |
