Unable to play AVI files

I have download various AVI & Mpg files from the net. When I go to play them on the latest Sage beta, I get sound an no video. Is there a plug in that I can use to view them. I would hate to have to convert everyone to play.

thanks

Try this first...

Set this in your SageClient.properties file:

mplayer/use_for_all_mpeg4_playback=false

That's what solved the problem for me...

It's already set like that.

Then try setting it like this:

mplayer/use_for_all_mpeg4_playback=true

then you don't need to have external DShow codecs installed.

This works in that I can now watch DivX or Xvid videos without Sage hanging... unfortunately it also kicks SageTv out of FSE... so when I go back to watch recorded or live TV I get about 17 FPS.

Any other solution for watching DivX?

Download and install a copy of XviD-1.1.2.exe from here.

Check all the boxes for FourCC support in Start -> Programs -> XVID -> Configure Decoder.

Set your SageClient.properties file back to:

mplayer/use_for_all_mpeg4_playback=false

and voila, XVID and DIVX playback in SageTV

Is there, or could there be a sticky setup where all these little changes in the properties file can be kept?

It would be great to have a list of them and what they do.

Just a thought

Sorry no such luck. The audio plays but the first frame of the video freezes. If I try any SageTv actions (stop, menu etc.) Sage locks up hard. I must hit reset. This si with 6.1.7.

I had this happen to me a while back too. For me, it was the Nvidia Audio decoder causing the problem. I ended up having to unregister the filter.
When I had
mplayer/use_for_all_mpeg4_playback=true
I couldn't get Sage to pass audio via SPDIF.
