Channel Setup ?!

Hello again.

I'm now trying to setup my channels in SageTV but it's probably the most retarded configuration system I've ever used. Can anyone ease my pain?!

Current situation:

EPG data is coming from the RadioTimes via Alan Birtles XMLTV grabber. I'm using the XMLTV channel ID's postprocessor.

Data is loaded into SageTV using the Mattias Larsson XMLTVImportPlugin.

SageTV asks if I want to scan all channels. I say OK.

I look at the channel setup and pretty much every channel is wrong. Some channels "tune" to the same signal. (It seems to love QVC). So basically it's trashed.

I kind of assume I'm supposed to use the remap and spend about 3 hours working out which channel is which, but surely there's an easier way?

It's SO much easier in Meedio TV. Sadly Meedio TV has it's own share of problems.

Can anyone help me?

Cheers,

James

Hi

You don't mention where your TV source is coming from - is a freeview card or from a set top box (like Sky or NTL) ?

I have my source from Sky and use Stephane's XMLTV importer http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/showthread.php?t=17566 - when I set up the channel in the importer I needed to tell it the physical channel it was assigned to (eg 101 for BBC1) and then when I selected the XMLTV source within Sage it just worked. I don't know if anyone has the Freeview channel numbers listed anywhere (if thats what you have)

Sorry!

It's a DVB-T card so it's Freeview.

A list of channel numbers might be quite useful actually. If only to speed up the remapping.

I've wiped my sage.properties file and I'm got rid of the duplicate channels. I'm now going through each channel number trying to figure out what it is so that I can remap it!

Right, I've now been through all the channels that SageTV found and a load of channels are missing.

So although I can remap some of them and get them working I need another tactic for the rest.

never had to deal with missing channels i'm afraid. If sage can't find them then i would check whether some other application (eg Wintv if you have a Hauppauge card) can

I can sympathise though, setting up the channels was the part of Sage install I found most difficult and frustrating. Now it works though, I never have to touch it

Cheers

I'm having the same problem.
I'm using a Hauppauge Nova T USB2.
I'm going to try StephaneM's importer but, at the moment, xmltv isn't connecting to the internet. I presume it's a firewall setting.

The most frustrating thing about this is that if I reset the video source to not use any EPG (OTA info only) it all works! I can get all the channels!

So why does using the XMLTV EPG screw it up so badly?!

I have 1 suggestion

Scan the channels with 'no EPG' and find one of the channels (noting its physical channel) that isn't showing when you use XMLTV. Then setup the tuner with XMLTV, find that channel in the lineup and set the physical channel to the one you found earlier. Does that work ?

DVB-T support is fairly new in Sage and it might be easier setting the channels up manually by finding the correct physical than it would be to labour over it :-)

My method was:
Scan the channels in Sage
Get the FRQ file and save
Delete the tuner in Sage, and re-add, don't tune but apply the XMLTV lineup.

Then go into channel setup, set the logical channel for each to the channel number you want to see in Sage, physical to the number in the FRQ file.

If there's anything you're missing in XMLTV lineup check the selected channels in the grabber. You may need to hit the "Refresh Channels" button in the Grabber. What are you missing?

Thanks guys. You've both described what I eventually did.

In the end I managed to get the channels in the XMLTV lineup assigned to the correct physical channels.

Unfortunately I still have problems. The Nova T will, on occasion, tune to the wrong channel and/or fail to tune at all.

The channels it struggles with change after I've rebooted. (So it's not a config problem).

I'm gonna send it back I think. In my opinion it's a piece of junk. The Hauppauge site is rubbish, the supplied software is rubbish (and didn't work at all) and now it seems like the hardware itself has problems.

Any suggestions for a different card? Ideally I need one that's compatible with MeedioTV and SageTV because I'd like to try Meedio again.

This seems to be a bug in the latest Sage Betas. See 6.0.15 DVB-T Intermittent No Video

I'm having the problem intermittantly in version 6.0 as well. version 5 worked fine

Well, first, not everyone is affected by this, but if you think you are you should raise a bug report. This will give Sage a better chance to fix it. Personally, I have never seen the problem at all.

Second, there is a possible fix here but as I don't have the issue I have no idea how good it is. DVBT with my cards has been rock-solid since v4 IIRC.

If that fix doesn't work, raise the bug report!

Hmmm.. well maybe I've spoken too soon but I've just installed the latest 6.1.4 RC and it already seems better.

I might try that DLL as well though!

If it's fine with the RC leave it at that! 6.1.4 post-dates that fix.

Yes, you're right it does. The DLL's are the same size.

Well, so far it's been OK apart from during the viewing of one channel where, at the start of a commercial break, the picture suddenly become garbled.

Changing to another channel and back again fixed that.

I'll keep testing it.

I believe that one is addressed in the next RC, any time now.

I'm having trouble tuning using my dvb-t card together with xmltv in 6.1.

I can get it to tune channels fine so long as I don't try and apply the xmltv lineup - as soon as I do i get no signals, even when I set the physical channel to the correct number in the frq file.

Any suggestions anyone?

After you scanned to get the file, did you delete the tuner and re-add it?
Did you check that your FRQ didn't get overwritten?
