Tzupdater.jar just what I needed, thanks! I'm running 1.4.x Java and am not upgrading to newer version (did long ago and had problems so downgraded back.) If it works don't fix it! But in this case it needed fixing.

Item 19: Which versions of the Java SE platform are already USA 2007 DST ready?

Java SE 6 FCS
Java SE 5.0 update 6 and above
Java SE v1.4.2_11

(Edit.)

According to a separate article, the version numbers are slightly different:

1.3.1_18
1.4.2_13
5.0_u9
6

That article also contains a link to a tool to update Java's TZ info without doing a full upgrade.

Theoretically Java applications do not have to be changed.

Same here, but I'd heard such good things about the new 1.6 I upgraded. So far, so good, and now I also don't have to worry about any security issues related to using an old version of Java.

My SageTV Server has the right time but when I connect my client SageTV changes my clock back 1 hour and the SageTV clock on the client displays another 1 hour back for a total of 2 hour difference between the client and the server. What is really frustrating is that the client SageTV actually changes my system clock back 1 hour and I have to manually correct it after exting the software.

Both client PC and server PC have the microsoft hot fixes in place

I couldn't get it working so I changed all my computers in the house to Arizona time (Even though I'm Pacific Time) and that fixed the problem. It seems that this Daylight Savings time is just too complicated for computers to figure out.

Anyone else live in indiana ? lol

Indiana started observing this pagan ritual of screwing with the clocks last year... and nothing but chaos has occurred.

Luckily, Apple (for my macs) got it all cleared up and fixed quickly, but stupid microsoft hasn't gotten their act together.

I have to select the 'eastern time' in the date control panel, instead of the "indiana (east)" selection.

Anyhow, yes, times all screwed up, I didnt realize it did this, so most the shows this week got mis-recorded. So I just set the system clock backwards an hour until I figure it out.

I DO NOT WANT to install a newer version of java because of the headaches I went through with CONSTANT crashes in sage. I will look into that java TS updater instead.

I ALSO do not want to update windows. I have the machine running good and stable, and updating all the hundreds of windows updates that are backlogged now, will only make things worse !! lol

Ugh... why the heck did the US have to go screw with the dSt thing ?!?!

For about the third time, Java 1.5 (or 5) sucked. It caused a lot of problems with Sage. I've not heard anything bad about 1.6 (or 6), and upgraded to it without issue. That's a lot easier than the updater.

Does anyone know when Sun released versions with the DST updates correct?

Just pull down KB931836, that's the Timezone update. Nothing saying you have to get ALL the updates. I don't even think they require validation to get it. I've not had my Sage setup get disturbed by an update for well over a year tho, so apparently it plays nice with all the current updates.

Ok.

I'm sure I am not alone... I just get a little ... twitchy, when it comes to do any sort of update to my HTPC. We've all been there at one point where an upgrade of any specific thing, caused many many headaches =)

Sort of makes us all a little shellshocked.

Then there's the other extreme, where some people look forward to updating their video card drivers every month.

Considering, for example, nVidias status of their Vista driver, I would include myself in this. I just hope they have it fixed by the time their mainstream DX10 cards launch in April.

Can't get the EPG/Sage clock to the right time

Well, here's my contribution to this problem:

I'm running W2K, and over the weekend I had to reformat my C: drive, so I figured I would upgrade to the latest version (I was running 2.2 just fine, and the Sage clock was even correct). Downloaded the trial version and got it working for the most part, but the Sage clock is an hour ahead. The windows clock displays the correct time, which was accomplished using the little script from Intelliadmin. At first I had JRE 1.4.12 or so, then I upgraded to 1.5.0_10-b03. That didn't work. Then I tried the tzupdater routine. That didn't work. Then I uninstalled all versions of java and installed JRE 1.6.0. That didn't work. I've tried disabling the sync to Sage server route, and that didn't work. I've even done a clean install of Sage using JRE 1.6.0, and that didn't work. So now, I'm not sure what to do. I'd really like to start recording again, but I can't until this gets resolved.

Any help is appreciated.

Alrighty, I'm back in business. I unchecked "Automatically adjust for daylight savings" in the Time/Date section of windows, and it worked (for now). Windows displays the correct time, Sage TV and the EPG now display the correct time (and sync with SageTV servers is enabled), so I think this is now fixed. I'll take a look in the morning and make sure it sticks after an update.

Welp, after having my clock on my machine go all wonky again after my 'hack fix' of adjusting the time to Indiana Time (where I live)... middle of this week the time leaped ahead an hour on me, and I go misrecorded shows.

SO... I installed Java 6, and the KB# dst update.

Went to the time/date control panel to set it to Indiana (east) time, and hit sync with time server.

It set it back an hour than what it should be lol.

SO... I set it to "Eastern" time. This now shows a checkbox of "observe daylights". So I make sure that is on, and then I hit the timeserver again.

This time it updates to the correct time, and Sage actually shows the same time when I launch it.

SO... lol ... MICROSOFT out of all that fixing they did (or didnt do), they couldnt get Indiana time correct ?!?! lol ... So, I am still left with setting it to eastern time. Which is ok I guess, because that is what Indiana observes now.

So, for now, the times seem to be correct on my HTPC. Time will tell if it goes bonkers again (lol).

Amazing how such a simple thing like DST change can cause so many nightmares. I hope Sage technologies has learnt from this sad experience.

I woke up this morning and my SageTV time was behind one hour but the system time was ok. I fixed this with the tzupdater back in the spring time when the issue first occured. All has been well until this morning. I ran the tzupdater again this morning and SageTV time is fixed. I belive I haven't reinstalled Windows since then, so I really don't know what happened.

Before tzupdater
SageTV 6.0.19
Java2 Runtime Enviroment, SE v1.4.1_07 and Java Web Start
Windows XP Pro SP2 with latest patches
JRE time zone data version: tzdata2002c. Embedded time zone data version: tzdata2007g.
System time-correct
SageTV time-one hour behind

After tzupdater
JRE time zone data version: tzdata2002g. Embedded time zone data version: tzdata2007g.
