File Conversions Failing

Since I upgraded to the newest vs. 6 I have not had a successful file conversion. I mainly use the conversions for my HD content. It used to work and I used it all the time with the beta versions, but now I don't know what's going on. The files I tried lately were large (around 24Gb) so I don't know if that was the problem. I tried converting to MPEG4 and DVD Standard. Anyone else having problems?

I am having the exact same issue with large HD files. if it is an hour or less it seems to work but anything beyond that fails almost every time. Files are too large to practically upload for evaluation though. I was able to get a large file to transcode to a Razr format but that does me no good with DVD transcoding needs.

Good luck. Mine would always get to about 90%+ then bomb. I sent a log and they thought it might be some errors in the HD file but it happens on all of mine. I think all my HD files have some little glitch or two it's just the nature of it.

I've found that running this command...

Code:
SageTVTranscoder.exe -i "input.mpg" -acodec copy -vcodec copy -f mpegts "output.mpg"
prior to conversion dramatically increases the chances that the conversion will succeed.

Same problem here...I have "24" in HD...I went to convert it to DVD standard so I could burn to DVD and it "failed"..

I then cut the HD video in 1/2 using videoredo and removed the commercials..I saved the first 1/2 as a TS and as a mpeg file..I tried converting each, but both failed.

So, Penguin, what does the command you show do? and where to I enter the command? when I convert I usually do it from inside of Sage.

Thanks,

Gary Ellis

Then you can just take out the -f mpegts

Basically, the command just runs through the video and quickly de/remuxes the video which cleans the stream up quite a bit. You can tell it worked if the new video is a bit smaller than the original.

You have to run this command from outside of sage, but if it helps you can tell Sage support that.

Ok, run my command and have the output be in one of your video import folders (not recording folders) and then once it shows up in your video library try and compress it as you did before. If that succeeds and compressing the original failed, let Sage support know that.

ok..here is what I did...and it is still transcoding..so, results are not in yet...

First I took the HD "24" file into videoredo...(Its a 2 hour show)...I have it in TS format and I cut out commercials and cut out the 2nd hour and saved it as a TS file...

So, now I have a 3.2GB file of the first hour of "24" in HD...I then used the command line that Penguin had from above. The system cranked for about 10 minutes and finished. At this point I have a 2nd file in TS format...changed the name slightly..I imported this file into Sage and played it just to make sure....and it played great in HD with digital sound...Great...

So, then I proceeded to "convert" the file in Sage to "DVD standard with AC3"

Its been working on that now for about 1 1/2 hours.

I can see that the sagetranscoder is taking up about 98% of the cpu and is still running.

Also I see a new file in the folder with the same name as the file to be converted, but he file type is "TMP" and it is only about 916MB.

I assume that this is a temporary file and that ultimately, if this conversion ever finishes, there will be a new file with the new file name in DVD standard format... (I hope)..

I'll let you know..

and I checked the resulting converted MPG file...it had sound...

when I burned to DVD, the picutre was great, but no sound...

Have you tried the DVD outside of SageTV, like with a standalone DVD player?

I only ask because some mpeg2 audio decoders, AC3Filter for instance, don't work for DVD's w/ mp2 audio where as standalone players usually do.

I just tried it in a regular DVD player and the sound will not play. This is the same problem I had when I tried to burn the HD file directly to disk before converting it before...

I went over to the ULEAD site and checked their forum. There was a whole bunch of stuff talking about "higher quality audio" that the DVD burners could not burn to DVD...

But, that's where I got lost...

There is hopefully a way to burn this new HD material to DVD...

Thanks for the help...

Well, I promise you there is a way because my plug-in does it quite well

I'll try and grab the SageTVTranscoder command I use and with a little modification you should be able to swap it out with Sage's HDTV -> DVD mpeg-2.
