Scoped Video Proc Amp settings?
Does anyone have the optimal settings for the RF connector on the Hauppauge board? I'd like to use what people consider to the baseline in the Video Proc Amp settings from within Sage. My video is a bit too bright and green.
I'd rather not adjust my TV because its setup perfectly with TheaterTek and other applications, but its so hard to configure Sage since you can't see immediate changes. -Robert |

OK, how about opinions of settings you've used? Anyone?

Can anyone reconfirm how to make these stick permanently? I have edited them in Sage and in the Registry and they keep resetting. I have Sage asleep do i have to have Sage not running?

I changed them in the registry with Sage not running. It seems to have stuck (last I checked anyway). From memory, I use the following:
Brightness 129 Contrast 72 Sharpness 2 I left the other settings as is. This results in good PQ on both my Sat. tuner and both of my cable tuners. |

White94Cobra> It seems to have stuck (last I checked anyway). Could you provide the path in the Registry for these settings? Last I looked, I couldn't find any. When I toggle apps which control my PVR-250s, SageTV always sets them to non-optimal values. I've recorded my desired settings and each time go thru the Settings and reset those values as desired. Indeed, it's a little trick to be able to set both (basically, I get both tuners recording different programs, select each in turn to view, and adjust that tuner's settings). Obviously, having a place to set those settings in the Registry (that, presumably, SageTV would not override as your posting suggests) would be ideal. For reference, my preferred settings are: Brightness: 90 Contrast: 40 Hue: -5 Saturation: 70 Sharpness: -2 YMMV - and, of course, is highly dependent on the calibration of your display device... |

Brightness: 126
Contrast: 66 Hue: 1 Saturation: 59 Sharpness: -1 Not scoped but calibrated to AVIA after having already calibrated my TV to AVIA. Interestingly, edmc's settings *looked* to me like they were going in the right direction based on what I saw from the default settings and the direction he took each value. However, when I tried them I had *way* too much saturation. The Hauppauge card is a strange animal. I, too, have experienced quirks with the "set the values in the registry" method so here's another request for a foolproof way to set the values once and for all (and if two cards can have different settings that's welcome, too!) I forgot to mention: this thread has details for how to see real LIVE (not PVRed) video as captured by your Hauppauge 250/350. You can skip ffdshow if you don't want to see the histogram (as in, if you're just relying on a calibration DVD). I played AVIA into my 250 from a standalone DVD player, then tweaked it with live TV from my cable box to perfect it.

I see some recommendations in other forums to set the sharpness to 5. I've also seen 1 and 2.
-1 ?? How does Avia look with that? Last edited by valnar; 11-13-2003 at 09:12 AM. |

Here is what I found looks the best. These values may change after Sage 2.0 because it'll be easier to adjust on the fly.
Brightness 128 Contrast 66 Saturation 64 Sharpness 2 Hue 0 OK, so I set the defaults for brightness/contast/hue, etc in the registry that I like. On bootup, and into Sage, all those values stick except one - Sharpness. I set it to 2, and it moves it to 5. Anyone know why? -Robert |

I had the same problem setting Sharpness, valnar. It is the reason that I mentioned "quirks". That one seems to stick if I set it using Sage setup.

Anyone know how to set negative 1 (-1) in the registry for a value? My Hue at zero looks a little green.

Nope, I make it a ritual now when I start Sage to reset it.

If I have Girder set the value in the registry (or in the sage.properties file?) before Sage launches will that do the trick?

And the obvious question that hasn't been asked directly is: "Where on earth is it getting the number 5 from?"
Sorry for being post-happy tonight. I'll be giving thanks for SageTV tomorrow, no doubt. |

70 1 62 4 are my settings so as far as scoped goes we (who have done avia, VE etc.) all have remarkably similar values thus far. |

67 0 64 2 Works well for me...Setting sharpness to 4 causes to many ummm, I wanna say sqiggles on the Svideo input..but thats not exactly it, just the Luma and Chroma interfer with each other a little, A setting of 2 completely gets rid of it with no noticable drop in sharpness. Actually a setting of 0 looks extremely good on the PC, but is a little to low when creating Dvd's. |
