And here's the release notes:

SageTV V6.0.17 Release Notes 12/14/2006 RELEASE CANDIDATE 2

Core Updates
1. Fixed bug with scaling GIFs while decoding them using the native image loader
2. Fixed bug with OGM duration detection
3. Memory usage optimizaitons for getting the name of a capture device (used heavily in the Scheduler, and was found through analysis of a user's dumps)
4. Native image loader is now enabled by default. Use "ui/disable_native_image_loader" to disable it.
5. Disabled multipass encoding for 3GP format since it doesn't always fit within the desired parameters
6. Fixed bug where Razr transcodings wouldn't play back on a Razr anymore
7. Changed offline transcoder so it allows WMV9 files to be converted (even though WMV9 is not supported officially)
8. Disabled debug logging by default
9. Fixed bug where invalid formats in a transcode job would cause no transcode jobs to be executed at all.
10. Fixed bug with metadata parsing where we interpreted Unicode chars as UTF-8

Linux Updates
1. IR codes for the MCE remote control are now configured by default
2. Fixed bug where we would continually regenerate the photo thumbnails when used on Linux.
3. Enable deinterlacing by default when using OpenGL renderer

Windows Updates
1. Force rebuildPMT for wrong PMT table created by firewire recorder (SageGraph Recorder).
2. Fix: multiple card support broken code (DVB-T Cinergy card)
3. Fixed multi-audio stream rendering so that when it switches it removes the old filters before adding the new ones

Placeshifter Updates
1. Fixed issue with Placeshifter bitrates getting out of control.
2. Don't disable the custom title bar by default on Win/LInux

Extender Updates
1. Modified transcoding setting used for Standard transcode quality to fix an audio/video sync problem on the MVP.
2. Fixed bug where the files used for DVD playback were not closed
3. Fixed bug playing back DVDs with MPEG1Layer2 audio content

STV Updates
1. Photo Viewer: Cache next image while slideshow is paused & fixed too-fast forked loop while paused in non-3D Accelerated mode.
2. Photo Viewer: Can access slideshow options while viewing photos.
3. Slideshows used by screensaver will auto-advance even if the slideshow auto-advance option is disabled.
4. Hidden: Fixed some divide by zero possibilities in the new diskspace bar code and some other minor visual touch-ups.
5. DVD Resume or Restart dialog: added Play command icon to Resume option button and added Play as a shortcut command to Resume playback.
6. Photo Browser: Display "Loading..." while loading an image & switching to the photo viewer.
7. Photo Viewer: Display indicator in lower right corner when manually switching from one photo to another.
8. Photo Viewer: Added additional commands to use up, down, ff, rew, ff2, rew2, smooth ff, smooth rew, chan up, chan down, page up, page down, page right, page left to move to next or prev photos.
9. Photo Viewer: Image viewing is always part of a slideshow. If a single image is selected in the Photo Browser, then a slideshow of all images in that folder starts as paused on that image. The Play and Pause commands may be used to start/pause the slideshow from that point. The on-screen tip is only shown while paused.
10. Photo Viewer: Next/Prev shortcut command icons were changed to FF and REW.
11. Photo Viewer: fixed image fade sequence when moving backwards in photo list.

Nice to see another release, but still no mention of H.264. I'll give this a try.

I'll be installing it quickly, I hope it fixes the VMR FSE bug that RC1 had.

Still hasn't fixed the hang on service startup that started on RC1, at least for me.

Question Looking for Official Word from Narflex

Jeff ... Will SageTV 6.x officially be supported on Microsoft Windows Vista? Will it be Certified? What will be your position?

Thanks, T.

Still no solution to google video problems mentioned here and here

besides after trying to run google videos several times the audio keeps playing even after I exit the google vid and even after I exit sage!! I discovered multiple instances of sagetvplayer.exe still running...

Should I file a bug report or is this a known issue? I know for a fact I'm not the only one seeing it...

Always file bug reports. If 500 people have a problem and only one reports it then the developer will assume it's not a problem, especially if the beta test pool size was 500 people.

So far, I've tested two problems and found that they have not been resolved:

* VMR9 stutters where it didn't under v5

* TSSplitter.ax must be unregistered in order to play back some firewire recordings (mostly SDTV)

It is very disappointing, but it's looking like the release version of V6 won't have H.264.

Jeff,

I haven't seen any notes that these have been fixed:

YUVMixing = 0, field-inversion deinterlacing issue
YUVMixing = 1, DVD Menu highlights don't work on static (non-video) menus

The first is definitely present in RC2, and AFAIK the second also.

I'm also having problems with VMR9 and HD files. I "downgraded" my video card recently so I can't say if it was smooth under v5 or not. Something isn't right though because I use fraps to measure framerate and sometimes I get perfectly smooth 60fps (nvidia decoder) and other times it struggles to maintain 42-44fps. This is on the same clips so it's not due to a difference in content. I'm only using downloaded test clips because I don't currently have a HD source so I've been hesitant to file a bug report.

I have been following threads on H.264/R5000 issues and really hoping it would make it into this release. It's very disappointing seeing RC2 and no mention.
