Strange recording behavior (rather long)
I have three PVR-250's, #1 and #2 connected to cable and #3 connected to DirecTV via Svideo. Tonight my wife (for the first time) wanted me to record one of her shows on SageTV instead of DirecTivo.
The problem is, I couldn't get it to record w/o adding it as a favorite. And then it replaced another favorite set to record at the same time. No conflicts were reported, and I waited 10 minutes for things to update. Here's the scenario - it was set to record Star Trek TNG on #2 at 8pm. At 9pm it was set to record West Wing on #1 and Jake 2.0 on #3 (only available via Satellite). Nothing was scheduled at 9pm on #2. I went into the Live TV guide and told it to record The Bachelor. After 10 minutes of waiting, it never updated the recording schedule. I then tried adding it as a favorite. It immediately replaced West Wing on tuner #1, leaving tuner #2 empty. I removed the Bachelor as a favorite and it immediately replaced it with West Wing on #1. I tried again to manually record The Bachelor and it still didn't register. On a whim I tried marking the Star Trek TNG episode set to record at 8pm on #2 as watched. Once I did this it immediately removed ST TNG and added The Bachelor to #2 at 9pm. I then marked ST TNG as unwatched and it added back to the schedule on #2, and left The Bachelor. At no time did I ever receive any conflit warnings. I'm guessing the same thing happened last night when I set it to record the finale of Joe Schmoe. I set a manual record but didn't verify it in the recording schedule. The next day I sat down to watch it, but it never recorded. I have applied the multi-tuner patch and am using version 1.4.10. Any ideas? |

Have you just changed over from using XMLTV to the new EPG? I have experienced a similar issue with that, but haven't wanted to delete my wiz.bin file, yet. I had some manual recordings before I changed over and that may have messed things up for me

Did you have any SageClients connected at the time?

No clients connected. I just remembered an important point though. I had IR turned on and it originally had a "suggestion" set to record on #2 at 9pm. I assumed when I manually set it to record The Bachelor it would replace the suggestion. I waited about 10 minutes and it didn't update the schedule, so I marked the suggestion as watched (the only way I know of to remove a show from the schedule). I waited another few minutes and it didn't add The Bachelor to #2. I then toggled record, don't record a few times and it still failed to add it to the schedule. That's when I tried the favorite thing.

Were you using XMLTV before? If you didn't clear all of your manual records out before switching, they could be causing a scheduling issue like this. (they'll get cleared once they fall into the past; or you can go back to XMLTV to clear them)

I didn't have any manual records set when using XMLTV. I did have about 8 favorites, but when I switched over to the national EPG I noticed it completely blanked the recording schedule and repopulated it after a couple of minutes.
I just did another test. Sage was scheduled to record one favorite and two suggestions at 3:30pm on Friday 10/31. I went in and set a manual record for a show that aired at 3:30 on 10/31. Even after an hour it still hasn't updated the recording schedule to reflect the manual recording. Looking at Live TV Guide the show is highlighted and right-clicking brings up the option to cancel the recording. No conflict warnings have been received either. |

I just checked again (it's now been about 6.5 hours) and it still hasn't scheduled the manual recording for 3:30PM on 10/31. I tried setting one of the suggestions to "watched" and it dropped off the recording list immediately but didn't add the manual recording. Sage still has the manual recording highlighted in Live TV guide like it's going to record it. I'm going to turn off IR to see if that alleviates the problem.

Have to ask the obvious...you've tried restarting SageTV haven't you?
What if you keep scheduling more ManualRecords at the same time on other channels as the one you already had scheduled? What happens then?

I did restart SageTV. I tried restarting again with no luck.
I tried scheduling more shows to record at the same time (3:30PM on 10/31). Selecting one additional manual record did nothing, selecting another did bring up a conflict screen asking if I wanted to record the original manual record (which is still not listed in the scheduled recordings) or record the new selection. The original and the new manual recordings still don't show in the recording schedule. There is a favorite scheduled to record on tuner #3 at this time. |

After doing some more testing, it appears that manual recording isn't working at all. I found a few periods when Sage wasn't scheduled to record anything for over three hours. I tried setting a manual record for the middle of the free time, and it didn't schedule it. I know it worked prior to adding the multi-tuner bug fix. I'll undo the fix to see if manual recording starts working again.

Have you tried making a copy of your Frey directory, blowing away your .bin files to get a fresh setup to duplicate this issue? It sounds quite annoying.

Well... I tried making a backup of my Sage directory and deleted my .bin files. Manual recording worked fine. I then quit Sage and restored by .bin files (I needed to clear out some shows before loosing all of the descriptions and such). Just for fun I tried a manual recording again. It WORKED. I'm guessing that maybe I just finally passed the point where any XMLTV data might be messing with stuff... I don't know, it's just nice to have it working again.
