Video freeze then catch-up?

I just submitted a bug report for this but was wondering if anyone else was experiencing the same thing.

Since upgrading to 6.0.11, when playing back video I occasionally get periods where the video freezes, but the audio continues playing normally. The freeze lasts 2-3 seconds, and then the video starts again at an accelerated rate until it catches back up with the audio... usually within a second or so. This happens randomly with no apparent pattern. It happens with livetv as well as prerecorded video, and it happens with old recordings made under 5.0.4 as well as new recordings made under 6.0.11.

Anyone else having this problem?

I've seen this, but only when I've done something that hits the CPU or the disk hard -- or something trys to steal the focus (decides that is has something to say this is just so much more important than what you're doing and insists on being in the foreground). Do you have any background processes that could be interfering?

I have started experiencing the exact same thing since the upgrade. I thought it was heat related since I had a fan go out. I have since replaced the fan and bought a new faster video card and I still have the problem. I would have the problem on Sage 5.0.4 maybe once every couple of shows but now it is 4-6 times every show. I have no method of reproducing the error since it is random so I have nothing to provide support other than just a dump of my logs.

I do have ShowAnalyzer running in the background, but at low priority. And there was never a problem in the past before the upgrade. In fact, unless I'm recording two things at once, typically showanalyzer runs in real time as the show is being recorded and uses up very little CPU. Sage uses about 15-20% on average while watching shows.

I am using DirMon and ShowAnalyzer as well. I also have never had problems in the past. I might try disabling and see if it has any effect. I have SA throttled back to only use ~30% of the proc.

I had posted about this as well a while back. For ME, getting rid of it required updating to higher nvidia drivers, and then getting 'new' problems due to those with my 6150. But the trade off was worth it, as you may read in that thread.

i have the same problem now too. no other processes running in the background just a straight install.

i'll try updating drivers but i'm hesitant to do that since everything else works well.

Well, keep in mind, you can always uninstall, and revert to prior drivers. Just make sure you use Driver Cleaner between driver installs.

But I understand your hesitation completely... I downright FEAR new nvidia drivers these days!!!

I wonder if the new influx of this problem coming about, is something frey did with the new Sage update... that is causing an 'old' bug to surface much more frequently now? Interesting...
