Blade,

Can you recommend where I should start? If someone would be nice enough to link me to a one-stop thread that's easy to follow then I'll try it out because comm skip would be noce to have. The ShowAnalyser thread is 895 posts long and I don't know where to begin. I know that I should get Dirmin2 to automatically invoke the SA files but I don't understand the mechanics.

I'm tired of advancing 10sec at a time on my MVP remote. I want transparent commercial skipping with no interaction. I'm lazy that way.

Do the comm skip work on MVP? 95% of my TV watching is via the MPV and I rarely watch on the HDTV other than DVDs.
You can change this to whatever you want. I use 30 seconds. 4 button pushes at most, usually.

Or you can setup comskip and use 0 button pushes.

Well true, but if the guy thinks he can't setup comskip without messing up his setup, changing the skip time to 30 seconds is better than nothing.

He only thinks that because he hasn't tried. It's easy.

I think the sluggishness is partly do to Java. I downloaded the latest 1.6 beta 2 of Java, along with the latest (1 Sept) snapshot, and the response is much faster than with Java 1.5 versions.

Hopefully, they are getting closer the the official release of the beta (Java, that is...well, and Sage!).

And for those of us who can't seem to find this info, where might it be.

I'm currently running the 1.4.x version that comes with Sage on those machines, but may try the newest java tonight (if there's not a new Sage beta to play with ).

Having spent some time over the past week experimenting with VideoRedo and AutoGK, I'm pleased to see that built in transcoding looks to be there.

http://download.sage.tv/api/sage/api/TranscodeAPI.html

Also appears to be:

- Improved picture handling (rotate/flip)
- Regular expressions for favourites
- Some additional methods for querying the database
- New SeriesInfo and TVEditorial APIs (built in reviews?)
- CD Ripping
- DVD burning

And the one that is likely to freak everyone out.... I can see new DVB-S, DVB-T and DVB-C functions

I may be totally off the mark or it may not be fully functional yet but if it is...

CD Ripping...instead of a CD Player function? Well, I guess that "might" work for me. Depends on how reliable the ID3 tags are that are used, I assume FreeDB will be used for that (which is what I currently use to get my ID3 information). I also hope there is good setup for file structure and bitrates... This would really make my life simpler, and also make the wife happy with her new CD's.

Pay attention to the 'since' tags. The CD ripping and DVD burning are for Linux and have been there for awhile. (but you're right on the other things you found)

JUC, the last thing you'd want to do is ditch your MVP right now.

Hi JUC,

A while back the beta guys slipped up and gave me some details about new MVP features in 5.1 in a response to a bug report I filed. I was sworn to secrecy, but I will say that you should heed Narflex's advice: Dont ditch your mvp......
