volume issue on one tuner

i've been recording several shows a night for months now, and it seems like i've got one (or maybe two) tuners that record with the volume lower than the others...

recording quality and everything else seems ok, just this volume issue.

is there a way for me to check which tuner recorded which shows? this would help me track down the problem. thanks!

I have a similar problem but my volume is way high on shows taped off my Sat dish. havn't had the energy to troubleshoot yet but the answer to your question is to look in the detailed info of the show recorded and it tells you what tuner recorded it.

Or... you could also use the "JB Detailed Info" STVi... It can mark the encoder number as a little icon on the detailed info page.

Phantomfsoc: For the volume issue with the SAT Receiver, turn down the volume on the Sat receiver to match the volume level of your other inputs. Most cable systems normalize the audio to aproximately 75% before they rebroadcast the signal, while most satelite receivers default to maximum volume.

jryan15: Is one of your tuner cards based on the ATI Theater 550? The Theater cards I have encode audio at aproximately 50% of the volume of my Hauppauge cards when feed from the same sources. This is a known issue with the Theater 550 chipset. You can alleviate the issue on playback. Install the AC3filter as your default MPEG Audio decoder, then using the AC3filter settings applet, configure it to do normalization.

You should be able to adjust the volumn of the capture card. I know the hauppauge tweak tool allows you to adjust it seperately for each card.

Thanks I already did all that. This is something that just started happening out of the blue. it has been fine for years and now its like the auto gain is too sensitive and I never touched anything for it to change.
We'll see what happens

blade, what drivers are you using that the Hauppauge Tweak Tool volume adjustments work? I use the latest and while Static and Dynamic video filtering adjustments work, volume has not (Even tried the actual .reg entries too).

Edit: I may answer my own question...is a reboot required for volume changes?

thanks for the info... i search around the downloads area and can't find the jb detail info stvi.

i will try checking out the properties of the cards later today... so i need specific hauppauge tweak tools to modify the volume settings?

edit... i just tried looking at all of my tuners using the color calibration setup, but only one of the tuners would even show video. i use two hauppauge dual tuner 500's...

Version 2.0.18.22316, I just used the driver that came with my cards. I've never had any problems so I figured there was no reason to update them.

I have the same problem, but the volume issue occurs only on my USB Vbox 3560 HDTV tuner. I watch my D10's at tv volume 12 but have to watch the Vbox at 40 on the tv.. Anyone know if there is a reg hack for the Vbox???

A couple of us are also having problems with the volume from our DualTV cards being too low. So far I'm not aware of a fix.

I also have a volume issue with the DUALTV card. I have a PVR-150 and the DUALTV volume is much lower. I have to turn the volume up on the tv about double to match the normat tv volume or the PVR-150

if you are sampling 5.1 ot better soundtrack you will get an dip in your volume, another issue might be signal strength to your tv station...

though to me it sounds like an audio track issue, i get this same problem on certain paytv stations where you have a digital audio track appose to a 2 channel stereo track...

there is no cure to signal lag or audio content unfortunently as it is on a station per station basis how good your audio is..

I have the nVidia DualTV and a PVR500 with virtually no volume difference in their recordings.

i'm guessing the problem he having is a reception issue with audio playback when he listens to a 5.1 soundtrack the tv station is playing, most tv stations use a stereo mix this is why your sound appears louder, if the tv station playing a movie that has a 5.1 or better soundtrack sometimes the sound can appear dull or lower than a standard stereo playback..

some people are audiophiles so when they hear a low audio track they complain...
