Sage and Computers and TV's - Performance

Hello - I'm wondering if most users set up SageTV in their family rooms and bedrooms as well as on their computers. In other words - do most use SageTV instead of say TIVO or some other digital recorder?

I'm still trying to assess how much network activity there would be when connecting Sage to several televisions and computers in the house. Also - what's the easiest way (especially with the remote) to turn off the live TV without exiting the Sage product (so as to free up the tuner for another client)?

What do most find the advantages are of SageTV over TIVO? I can see several but I'm looking for others feedback.

Thanks again,

Mike

I use the "Stop" command.

SageTV IS my TIVO in the family room -- it is desgined to be used in that way with a 10ft user interface etc.

As ToxMox says, the STOP command (CTRL-G)
I have also mapped the TV remote's Power-Off IR command to STOP in sage, so that whenever the TV is switched off, Sage is stopped automatically.

For me, the advantage over Tivo is that.. well, Tivo's don't exist in Belgium, which is quite a big one!
Mainly though for me its the ability to have media center functionality (music etc), the ability to browse and display my digicam photos on a nice big screen (I don't use Sage for that, but a separate product) and the occasional usefulness of having a PC in the living room (weather,Web access, IMDB lookup)...

I once had fun new-years party with an impromptu kareoke, using lyrics downloaded from some random website and displayed on the TV, and (cough) p2p'ing (cough) requested tracks that were not in my collection...

I used to have my Sage server hidden behind a 70 gallon fish tank, connected to my TV. Now, I've moved it into a corner of my basement. I have 3 clients. One microATX connected to my TV, one on my main PC in my den, one on my laptop in the family room(same as client), and one on a p3-500 laptop in my daughter's playroom.

My laptop is used for mobility. If I'm in a room without a TV(I only have one), I can take the laptop with me and listen to music or watch sage while doing whatever. In the playroom, she can watch Pooh or Sesame Street.

My server now has about 8 HD for almost one terabyte of TV storage and about 600g of Divx'd movies.
