What is your scheduling look ahead?

Have you modified the default schedule look ahead in the sage.properties file?

I believe the default is 3 days which is expressed in milliseconds as follows:
scheduling_lookahead=259200000

I hardly ever look at the scheduled recordings. When a conflict occurs Sage looks ahead to the max anyways to find an alternative to fix the conflict. Setting the lookahead higher makes Sage work harder CPU wise and I have no need for it. Since I have six tuners I never have conflicts.

Until last weekend I had max look ahead but I had video stuttering on my clients even with Overlay. I decided to change it back to default and now the video stuttering seems to have disappeared. The problems were less pronounced on the 2 MediaMVPs, but the 2 PC based clients it was very dramatic. I would not have thought that scheduling 6 tuners would be so processor intensive. It would peg at 100% CPU for 5 to 30 seconds when I had it set to max. I liked having the information, but I have never had recording conflicts. Maybe having over 100 favorites played a role too.

Wow! Anytime I get more than 30 favorites, I start looking at trimming or combining them. I mean do I REALLY need that Buffy First Run favorite anymore?

If I didn't trim favorites I'd probably have 200

Maybe I should spend more time watching TV instead of writing (or debugging) code...

Nah...

I had to work hard to get down to 100 favorites. I think it used to be nearly 300 before I cleaned it up. I think 6 tuners is the cliff....when I had 4 tuners and 14 day look ahead I had no problems, but 6 tuners and not so hot.

Another thing worth mentioning is that I don't have IR enabled.

I believe IR is calculated anyway; the shows it comes up with just aren't recorded if IR is off. If I remember correctly, when you output the schedule file, it lists IR shows regardless of your IR setting.

5 tuners, just recently extended look ahead up to 5 days. Originally had it set for 14 days, but as the favorites multiplied, it started messing up on startup and never completing a recording schedule. Set back to the default 3 days and it was OK, but I liked the extended schedule so I could go through and mark more stuff "watched" if need be.

Favorites is now at 363

2 tuners, 7 days IR enabled... (I only get 7 days EPG data, and 1 week is a reasonable amount of time between internet cafe visits to play IR Whack-a-mole via the webserver when I am on holiday!)

Lol, nielm! I guess I am on the default. I didn't even know about being able to change the lookahead. Sgae has so many things to configure, I'm constantly discovering new things . I'm gonna go and mess with this now.
