Sage Media Refresh

Taken from the feature request thread, and posted below.

Basically, if sage is already doing this, is there a way to control the frequency of udates? Can i check when the last refresh was done?

I'd like to be able to run media refresh as a cron job or scheduled task.

I compress and archive tv shows to my video library server, which is constantly updated with stuff being added or removed, not necessarily from the htpc. If i could set up a refresh media daily/every week automatically, this would be helpful as there's one less button to push, one less thing to explain to the girlfriend and another point higher on the GAF/WAF.

[Edit: I believe SageTV should already refresh its imported media info periodically. If you want clarification of what happens, any issues, etc., please post a question in a new thread. - Opus4]

Simple to check when last EPG & when next scheduled. Don't know of a way to control frequency of updates other than removing & adding back tuner in Setup Wizard. >Setup>System Information

I think he means refreshing the imported media library, not the EPG.

I have never looked into how often the library refreshes itself or if there is a property that affects that. But, I believe the imports should automatically refresh at some point. If I copy a new video to an import dir, it will show up in SageTV sometime - forcing a refresh just tells it to do so 'right now'. If things don't refresh properly either way (thumbnails, imported fiels, etc), then there is a problem.

BTW: The tip for updating the EPG is in the FAQ & on p. 42 of the v2.1 manual: simply disable & re-enable a channle in Channel Setup & select Done.

you could use NTFILEMON from www.sysinternals.com to monitor when sage reads from the vid lib too see when it scans it...
