Question usb-uirt stops working during setup

When I go to the setup wizard and it gets to the part where you enter "0" on the remote the usb-uirt quits working, i can tell because the light stops blinking when i hit the buttons on the remote, then it gets an error after it sits for a minute and then tells me to hit enter to try again. this is frustrating because it DOES work when i map remote buttons to sagetv functions. will the madness ever end!

Does this thread cover it? -- Yet another USB-UIRT learning problem thread... (See post 3 about not using service mode temporarily.)
