Yet another USB-UIRT learning problem thread...
Hi folks,
I just got my USB-UIRT in the mail and am trying to set it up as a blaster in Sage to control my Scientific Atlanta Explorer 3250 cable box. I have read the manual, the faq, and several of the threads on the subject and am still having problems. Basically I set up the capture device and tell it to use USB-UIRT to control the box, I add a new device, and when it comes time to learn it just hangs on zero. It won't learn the command, and I have to close the sage window because it doesn't respond to any commands even after a long time. I tried the trick posted before in other threads to start with a template *.ir file, and reprogram the buttons once the device is set up. Same problem... hangs at zero. I tried the "wait 2 seconds" trick... no dice. The USB-UIRT and remote are OK. If I go to the "show commands bound to IR" menu and I push a button on the remote, it shows the code. Also, girder recognizes commands from the remote. Any ideas? I'm running 2.2.4. Thanks in advance... |

Hello folks.
I am having the exact same problem. The remote is fine because it is recognized by the Girder free trial. And it just hangs on zero like the above user. I have a Scientific Atlanta Explorer 2000. USB-UIRT + The IR Transmitter cable that came with Phillips MCE Remote. It is refusing to learn the commands when I press the zero button on the Cox Digital Cable remote, pointed directly at the USB-UIRT. It keeps giving me an error "There was an error learning the remote control code. Please release the button on the remote control." and immediately after that on the same screen, "Press Select (Enter) to continue and try to re-learn the code." Here is the solution. I had the same problem and have sent a bug report on it. Temporarily stop and disable the SageTV service and run Sage in regular non service mode. It should then learn no problem then when you are done quit Sage and enable and start the service again and continue on as normal.
PS I don't know if this will help with the 2nd poster's problem but post number 1 is exactly what was happening to me. Last edited by ToxMox; 01-24-2005 at 09:18 PM. |

Now I just need to program this Phillips MCE Remote to send commands to SageTV. |

ToxMox,
I've followed the instructions which helped the two here to the letter and I'm not having any luck. Do you have any other suggestions for resolving this issue? Initially I experiencing lockups when trying to learn the codes. I disabled the Sage Service and ran in standard mode and was able to get one step closer. Unfortunately I still receive the following... "There was an error learning the remote control code. Please release the button on the remote control." I am also using a Scientific Explorer (HD) Thanks! Doug |

Have you tried teaching the codes by holding the remote about 6 inches away from the USB UIRT? Also just to make sure things are working properly try any other remote and see if it can learn those codes. Might be something with that specific remote and your UIRT. Did you get the 56K option on your USB UIRT?

ToxMox,
Thanks for the response! I will try holding it approxiamtely 6" from the UIRT and see how that goes. I tried testing it with my Philips MCE remote and received that same error. I'm not sure about the 56k option as I ordered the "stock"? USB-UIRT from usbuirt.com. Thanks again ToxMox! Doug |

There is a program called IRHelper written by the developer of the USB-UIRT. It captures the IR and displays it in Pronto format that you can then type into directly into the Sage .ir file. This is how I set my system up (which suffered the service can't learn bug and I didn't know about the workaround).
