can you use the latest sage without running as a service?

I'm still using SageTV v2.0.20 and am reluctant to update as everything works ok mostly... if i did update can you run sagetv normally so my backup script could continue working?!

I run SageTV 2.2.2 and NOT as a service, so I guess the answer is yes.

Correct. If running as Service and then execute SageTV.exe it runs in Client mode. If Sageservice not running and execute SageTV.exe it then runs in full SageTV mode.

Slight correction: if the sagetv service is disabled, sagetv.exe will run in the full sagetv mode... The service can be disabled by the SageTVServiceControl app...

(If service is enabled but not running, SageTV will start the service on start-up)
