Removng a recording drive

Hi....

I have two HD's set up in Sage for TV recordings.....

Drive G:\ which has 200GB
Drive H:\ which has 250GB

I want to stop using Drive G:\ for Sage and just use it for DVD's etc. However, drive G:\ has quite a few Sage TV recordings on it. If I remove G:\ from setup as a drive to use, will I lose all my recordings or will sage just stop recording anything new to it and the recordings that are there will still show up on TV Recordings and all is well?

Thanks,

Stacy

If you remove G you will remove references to all recordings on G... The files will still exist, but wont be accessible from Sage.

Alternative solution: Change the properties for the drive G video directory to be
Disk space rule: Use Only
Diskspace: (slightly more than the total of video recordings already made)

Sage should then stop recording things to G, but your files should still be accessible.

You could also move all Sage recordings from the video dir on G to the video dir on H (while Sage is fully shutdown), then remove the G: video directory...

Actually, removing the dir from the list of Video Directories in Detailed Setup -> General should just stop SageTV from recording to that dir. I just did that & it didn't remove any recordings. (not yet, anyway) I'm using beta v2.2.3.

Also, unless you set all the recordings to Manual Recordings or manual delete only Favs, changing the Disk Space rule to Use Only & the Diskspace to slightly more than what is already used will just tell SageTV to delete something to make room for a new recording.

For the deletions, I was assuming that there was some space free on H:

I removed a video directory in 2.0 (I think) and lost access to the recordings from within Sage (the files were on disk, just no longer in Sage recordings, and no metadata when I realised my mistake and re-entered the directory)... Gues thats something that has been fixed

There probably was a change, since v2.0 was much more aggressive regarding deleting files -- that's why I listed the version I tried it with (on my test setup, of course). It may even still be dangerous to do that with v2.1, so I should have made that more clear. It hasn't gone through an EPG update yet, but from other posts it sounds like the EPG server is down, so I'm not going to force an update at the moment to try that.

You can move the files, as you said, in those older versions, but if anyone is going to do that, see the FAQ entry on the subject & be sure to set the property to prevent deleting partial & unwanted files (seeker/clear_partials_and_unwanted_when_ir_off=false) or else your moved files WILL be deleted if they aren't favs and IR is off. The v2.2 beta should have fixed that too.

I tried it and it works great.

I just moved the file from the G:\ drive to the H:\ drive and Sage didn't miss a beat -- still showed up and played correctly.

Thanks for the pointer
