Battlestar Galactica
Is there any way for me to setup Battlestar Galactica as a favorite and SageTV be able to differentiate between the original series and the new series? I think I am right in that there would be something in the EPG that SageTV could use to tell the difference?
SCI-FI has both the old and new, so I can't do it by channel. |

They have the exact same title? If the old series episodes are all marked as reruns & there are new ones marked as First Runs, you could at least set the Fav to record First Runs only. That iwll also skip reruns of the new series, though.

I'm curious if they all have the same show ID. For example the new ones seem to be:
EP710749xxxx Do you have any of the old ones? I think if they are different, then they won't be recorded as part of the favorite. |

I'm recording the series as a favorite. I'll check to see if the show ids are the same. Couldn't you also make a favorite based upon a actor in the new series like Linda Park?

The 2003 Movie and the old series have 1464860000 as an ID. The new series has 7107490000 as an ID. I marked the movie as a favorite and got the movie and the several day marathon of the old series. The new series is not marked as a favorite. I am still using 1.4 but would expect the same results with the current version of SageTV.

I added BSG as a favorite w/ 2.2.2 and got the same result.
I didn't look closely enough to see if the old series rerun was recorded as a IR recording, or a Favorite recording. I'll look closer next time it happens. |

Just make sure you don't miss any episodes of the new series, they rely heavily on each other, unlike the original series
. They've been showing it on Sky One overseas for a couple months, and thus far it's been awesome .

It's also driving me nuts not being able to differentiate between the old and new series. I'd think this would be something for Zap2It to look into rather than Frey though.

There appears to now be a third Id for a Battlestar Galactice episode. The Sci-Fi channel has a 4 hour episode of Battlestar Galactica with an ID of EP6185710003. The description and original air date appears to match the 2003 movie which aired last sunday on NBC. The NBC version had a MV type number and it was displayed as a 3 1/2 hour movie, the SFI-FI version has an EP type number and is is diplayed as a 4 hour episode.
BTW: The old series and the SFI-FI version of the movie all are shown as rerun and the new series (at least the ones in my EPG) are shown as first run.

The marathon is coming up soon. Just go to additional airings from the favorite menu and go through them and set them all to watched, or as previously suggested only record first-runs. Setting watched took me like 5 minutes.

The new series on my system shows the character names so if you want the new series, I guess you could make a favorite actor with Edward James Olmos. I see the original air dates, so if there was a way to filter out the 1979 versions, you would only have the new series left. I didn't notice any actors listed for the older series.

Hey that's easier. I didn't realize you could do that. Thanx Menehune

You'd be better of using Katee Sackhoff or James Bamber. If you use Olmos, you'll get lots of other movies as well (not that it's a bad thing, can't say I've ever seen a movie of his I didn't like). Just depends on whether they are on the cast list provided by Zap2It or not.
I'm using the favorite set for first-run myself, they do at least get that right.
