imports, sage service and user management

Hi

I'm having problems with imported video. It used to work with 2.0 but since I'm using the service with 2.1 it doesn't. I use a user I created for the service but it's not seeing the UNC path I set in the import directory properties.

First, how can I reset the import file listing ? Even if I remove all the directories the import list the old files listing (from my 2.0 install) are still there. Would help to troubleshoot...

I'm pretty sure that the problem lies in that the machine sharing the videos. The sage service is started as user ./sage and I tried to create the sage user on all the boxes but it doesn't work. I'm not in a domain so one machine isn't aware of the other's users... To top it off, the server is win2k and the client is winXP.

And I know how to set sharing properties in win2k but XP wrapped all that in a cute GUI and I can't figure out WHERE I can give access to "anybody" to a shared folder.

I'm open to suggestions...

thanks

Gog

Another headache: I just realized that if I change the user of the sage service it looks like it's loosing everything. Favorites, recorded shows, everything is empty. If I go back to the localuser the data is back.

This is probably a permissions problem -- the sage properties files may not be readable/writable to the user... This could also be your network problems as well...

Has the sage user got admin rights (member of the Administrators group in W2k?)

setting the sage user as administrator on the server machine allowed me to use the sage user for the sage service but it doesn't solve my network problem

OK and the import listing is also updated. Just the sharing stuff to tweak now. Anybody know how to let access to "anybody" in windows XP ?

I can see the permissions with the win2k box and "everyone" IS allowed everything, except "full access". but read, write, modify should be allowed.

Do you have simple file sharing enabled? If so you might try turning it off if you have XP pro. Saw how to do it in another thread but don't remember where or who first posted it but here is how: From My Computer window or explorer - Tools menu - Folder Options submenu - view tab - scroll advanced settings to bottom and uncheck: "Use simple file sharing (Recommended)". If it doesn't work you can always set it back and if you have already done this then ignore this suggestion.
