Seperate Favroties by Show and First Run/Re-Run status
There are shows I record like Law and Order that are in syndication, ideally I would like to setup two Favorite profiles to accomplish my ideal of always recording the first runs, never deleting first run shows automatically and recording a fixed number reruns, letting older reruns fall off the system as new reruns are recorded.
I see 2 profiles like this: 1 "Law and Order First Run" that would allow me to specify keep all and Keep until as Manual. This would ensure that I record new episodes, and Sage never deletes them. 2 "Law and Order Rerun" that would allow me to specify a cap of say 5 episodes (since they are one 6-6 times a day), and I could set the Keep Unti to Automatic. Of course there are other added benefits if they are separate profiles, I can adjust the reruns to record at lower quality, change start/stops independently of the first runs etc. |

Maximum MPG file size
To make it easy to create removable media it would be nice to set the maximum file size of the MPG files in Sage.
As an example, 700MB would be good for people copying to CD's 2GB for those making CD player compatible disks 4.5GB for those making MPG DVD disks. Pete |

Remember "Don't Like" entries after restart
After a reboot or restarting SageTv, I have to re-edit the "Don't Like" episodes of a favorite. The program should store these somewhere.

It doesn't appear that this has been mentioned yet, so...
I'm a TiVo user and don't have Sage yet. One feature that has been asked for on TiVo but not provided is the ability to support multiple users. That is, I would like to be able to keep track of who has viewed a particular show so that I would know when it could e deleted. Right now I have to go around to each person and ask 'Have you seen X yet? Can I delete it?' It would be nice to extend the 'Season Pass' feature (whatever it is called in Sage) to be able to list the people who will likely want to see the show and to have the option to have it deleted once everyone has seen it (or earlier if explicitely told to do so). |

1. Need to be able to input just one number or two numbers for a channel change. Wife hates having to put in 00 or 0 before the numbers.
2. Another wife need is to input the channel number in the Guide and be able to go with that channel. Number 1 above still applies for this request. Gerry

Blank original channel until channel change complete
I have seen this issue with Tivo and Replay, when you are using IR to change channels on a cable or satellite box, the frist several seconds of your show tends to be the last several seconds of the previous show... Not a good thing, if the channel was on a late night movie channel.
Perhaps a user configurable setting to allow us to specify the number of milliseconds to blank at the begining of shows using something other than the builtin cable tuner. Ideally something configurable per input (as different sources may have different lag time). If you put the upcoming shows detail info in this blank screen, this could do double duty as a title screen if/when the show is saved of to other media. |

Please return autopad
Jeff, I see that autopad has been disabled. Is there a chance of adding some type of channel specific autopad back. The local NBC is ALWAYS about a minute behind and the local FOX is a bit ahead. It would be nice if I could pad each channel independently. Just being able to pad a favorite doesn't work if the favorite is on multiple channels with multiple time offsets.

My Two Requests
1) An option to record certain shows only once per day. Zap2It, for whatever reasons, doesn't appear to distinguish between particular episodes of certain shows (e.g. Tough Crowd with Colin Quinn, Charlie Rose, etc.). As a result, if such a show is marked as a favorite, Sage records every single showing that it can (as it should, given the limited amount of info available to it). This becomes a problem if an episode is aired more than once a day, because multiple recordings of the same episode end up on one's hard drive. Also, it can put off recording of other shows if there is a time conflict.
2) An option to record the very first airing of new episodes of certain shows. I'll give an example to illustrate what I'm talking about. Show X and Y are in my favorites, and they both air new episodes Monday through Friday. X is on at 1:00 and 11:00, and Y is on at 1:00 and 3:00. There are at least two ways to get both of these shows recorded on the same day, but, for whatever reason, Sage does not record them in the order that I want it to. It decides to record Y at 1:00 and X at 11:00, which means that I can't watch today's episode of X when I get home at 5. To get it to do this now, I have to manually tell it to record X at 1:00 on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, etc., as far into the EPG as a can, everytime new EPG data is available. (Also, if show Y falls into the category of shows that I discussed in my first request, then every day I'll be asked to resolve a scheduling conflict involving the show, with no option to 'Always record X instead of Y'). I use a dual-display setup, and it would be nice to use the guide/setup/library menus on one display while watching TV on the other, rather than having the TV pause when the menus are accessed.

feature requests
1) Have more control over how conflict resolution boxes are displayed to the user. When a client is connected, it seems that they are always displayed on the client even if the reason the box was displayed was because of a change made to the server. Also, when the client decision box is displayed, the server interface becomes unresponsive until the client chooses a resolution method.
Ideally, I would like to be able to tell SageTV to *NEVER* automatically prompt me to resolve a conflict it has detected, and instead just display the yellow TV (!) icon indicating that a conflict exists. Then, when I click on the icon (or press the appropriate hotkey (resolving conflicts should be sage command!) or remote button), I am prompted to resolve any conflicts. So even if a client is logged in, if I am at the server and click on the conflict icon, I resolve the conflicts AT the server. Currently when clicking on the conflict icon on the server, the message is displayed on the client if one is logged in, or not at all. The behavior right now is far from ideal, as someone may be watching on a client as I adjust the schedule on the server. 2) Add a sage.properties value to limit how close one can get to viewing 'Live TV'. Currently, if I select live TV, the video/audio is very choppy for the first few seconds as it stutters until it backs off enough to have enough buffering time between when the data is written to the disk and when it is read and played back. I would like to set a value in the Sage.properties file so that the closest playback can get to 'live tv' is X seconds or X milliseconds. Thanks! Dan Singletary -Dan |

I really need Closed Captioning to work with the PVR-250. My son wears a cochlear implant and while he does well in many environments watching tv is much easier with Closed Captioning.

Partial Delete?
This may have been suggested or discussed, but I can't seem to find it if so. I haven't received the capture card I ordered yet, should be soon, but something I would LOVE to see is borne from one of my frustrations in TiVo. I'd love to see a feature that allows the partial deletion of a show. Often times, if I'm recording a non-static event (such as a sports game, etc.), if I have slated to record 3 hours, for example, and the game is over in 2, I don't want to have to keep the extra hour of unused recording space. I'd like to see a way to tell the program to delete from x minute to x minute (or to the end, from the beginning, etc.) of an already-recorded show. It would be cool to do it right in the SageTV software. Does this make sense? Thanks!

The one thing I liked in Windows Media Center was the search function. As soon as you start entering letters, it shows matching searches, and with each letter narrows down the list.
So you really never have to type in the whole show name. It saves a lot of time, because using a remote is clumsy. The other neat thing is does is let you enter letters like a cell phone. Hit '1' two times for B, etc. A lot of people are text messaging left and right and are really fast at that. "A lot of people" is not code for "me" Thanks. |

First Run/Rerun priority
Lately I've been receiving conflict notices (due to the new fall season) in SageTV about the First Run of show A conflicting with the Rerun of show B. It'd be nice to have the options in the Favorites Manager to have First Runs of show A ALWAYS take priority over Reruns of show B or Reruns of ANY show.

I would like SageTV to set its process priority to a higher than Normal value so that other activity on the system doesn't cause the video to stutter

1) Option to force a favourite to be for this program on a single channel -- so that any repeats, or different programs on other channels with the same name are not recorded.
(Note I use XMLTV, so often don't get episode name/firstrun/rerun status, and have 23 channels from 5 countries in 4 languages -- giving a lot of possibilities for multiple program name matches!!) 2) Option to specify default padding at start/end of recordings. 3) Full manual recording: Channel W at date X, StartTime Y, EndTime Z (for those channels with no, or unreliable EPG data), also 'One Touch recording' for same: press Record when watching a channel, and set a duration... Preferred Save Directory
I would really like to be able to assign a "preferred save directory" for each of my tuners. I have two computers that contain tuners and this would allow me to assign the local hard drive for each tuner, rather than forwarding them over the network to the SageTV PC. Primarily, this is to reduce network traffic (I have a rather odd configuration in order to prevent me from using 24Mbps of network bandwidth when I am recording), but it could have another benefit, recovery from a power cycle on a SageRecorder PC.
If I could assign the target directory for each recorder, then each SageRecorder instance could hold the list of shows it has recorded. If I were to power cycle the recorder PC, my main SageTV application could re-connect to the recorder and re-fetch the database of shows (no more losing the shows that have been recorded by a remote computer just because there was a network glitch). |

I'd like to see javadoc for the java modules and for the client/server protocol.
This would enable me to fix / add features / change the functionality to suit my needs exceptionally well. It'd be nice if there were some diagrams as well depicting the thought and flow of the application as a whole as well as the relationships and collaboration between the different components (could be as simple as a descriptive summary with perhaps a diagram or two in the package.html files). If there already are any docs (library/module docs for either java or C), I apologize for not finding them and would appreciate a pointer to where these can be obtained. It's nice to see a project mixing native calls for what they're good at and Java for the parts suiting it (networking and engine stuff). This is actually the second project in a matter of weeks I've seen doing this (The FPS game Chrome also uses a Java engine, but comes with no intelligible documentation or comments and a file structure like written in hell). For people asking for more "native" look and feel (instead of Swing/AWT), you might take a look at IBM's SWT library (provided by the eclipse project). It's a nice library to code for and uses native calls for widgets and stuff. |

I would like to suggest an option to send a "magic packet" when accessing media on a network. This would allow the PC on which the media is stored to wake up before sage tries to open the folder in the library.
