I'm not sure, but I'll post my most recent experience/results.
I recently did the nuke and pave on my HTPC (not hard since I've got numerous images of it) to try it without SP2 to see what happens. Well, it didn't help, turns out SP2 has some VMR9 stuff in it in addition to DX9c. Anyway, what I ended up with was a (IIRC) was a WU SP2 install over top of SP1a with DX9c, and I was running the newest 71.24 drivers for my 6800. Well I was getting tearing, which is really bad on a 6800, plus the infamous VMR9 field order inversion (oft referred to as studdering) in a bad way. Put up with it for a day or two. Today I finally got some time, so I uninstalled them (Windows control panel) and did a "fresh" install of the 67.03 official drivers, and wouldn't you know it. The tearing is gone, and so appears to be the field inversion issue (if it's not, it's almost gone). Something to think about. |
