kny,

AFIAK, you need to be running VMR9 to get the Pixel Adaptive Deinterlacing, and the better scaling. The IVTC/film mode detection (either hardware or via VPP), and some of the other stuff should work with Overlay or Default/VMR7.

The thing to remember is that "PureVideo" is the name for a set of technologies/features, not all of which will be used all the time.

Chris,

The absolute 100% best settings () I've found are this (on my 6800):
Forceware 67.03
nVidia decoders 1.00.67
DX9c
1776x1000i to my HDTV (this will vary based on display)
VMR9 in Sage
In the drivers
AA = 2xQ
Aniso = 16x
And all optimizations off (check the advanced settings box).

Now I don't know about AA/Aniso, logic says they should not affect video (2D), logic also states that the difference should not be great. However tonight I started watching stuff and was getting horribly blocky (as in poorly scaled) video, and also combing. Changing from "Application Controlled" to the above AA/Aniso settings got me the phenomenal video quality I've come to expect from this setup.

Qualification: My HTPC is hosed, uninstalling SP2 is a bad idea, I'll be fixing that in the next day or two.

yeah knew this about VMR9 and makes sense for the scaling
and yes messing with directx or SP2 is bad

LOL
enjoy the rebuild

and will try the AA and AF settings

where do you find these settings? I don't think that I have ever heard of 'Ansio'.

anti aliasing and anisotropic filtering
you can set this in the driver settings

16x was too much for my computer 8x almost seems too much
but it has not had a problem

what is the xQ again?

and all optimizations are off by default
at least when using high quality setting

In default video rendering mode my machine is smooth as anything.... the task bar icon for the NVDVD codecs appears and it works really well.

If I turn on VMR9 I get jumpy video....I really cant figure out why at the moment....

Any ideas?

oh I know why
you are rendering on two screens
try running dual monitors rather than clone and setup the one you will use for video as primary
VMR9 is tough on a CPU/ GPU and since there is still only one GPU and now only one VPU
direct3d tends to only work well on one monitor

Guys,

I can *kinda* see how antialiasing might be appropriate to video, though you really should only be able to see its effect on a progressive display like computer monitor or LCD or possibly an LCD tv..

But anisotropic filtering deals with mip & detail levels in 3d rendering. I find it hard to believe that 1) the card would even apply AF to 2d video and 2) it would know how to blend the "levels" that don't even exist in 2d video.

SHS,

I got no audio also, so I made sure the DVD audio decoder filter was set to default (which would be Nvidia on mine). Played a DVD, and the little Nvidia icon showed up on the system tray. Properties of that and set the audio to SPDIF so my Audigy will do the decoding.

No it's not working for me either

I upgrade to the Sage 2.2 beta (for the directx9.0c fix), and upgraded my video drivers, and nvdvd codec. So I am not sure which was the cause, but I cannot get the DVD player to work at all. Like you, my other video (tv or imported mpegs) work just fine. I just found this last night, but haven't had time to play with the settings to see if I can get a different codec to work. First I had an "audio renderer error" so I switched the renderer. It no longer gives me that error, but I get no video or sound at all.

Alig, look at kny3twalker's suggestions. If you are using 67.20 driver (assuming you have a geforce 6x card) its jumpy. I have found the 71.20 beta drivers on guru3d works the smoothest for me, or use the 67.03 if you want an official release. Games run good as well. After about 3 hours testing last night, setting vmr9 with everything else default looks the best to me on my 6800gt. I also have found that using a recorded football game is a great test for de-interlacing, lots of big white lines to look for stair stepping or artifacts.

Make sure you go in and set the decoder to S/PDIF output or you won't get any sound from it (DD decoding is locked in non-Dolby Certified apps).

Unfortunately I can no longer see the Decoder icon in my system tray (windowed mode or otherwise) when using VMR9. Does anyone have a suggestion on how to get it back (uninstall/reinstall didn't work). Thanks.

No Audio

NVIDIA DVD Decoder's audio decoder has never worked for me with DVD, still using Sonic Cinemaster DS Audio Decoder.

NVIDIA DVD Decoder tray icon is being displayed in the tray but it does'nt activate the NVIDIA DECODER PROPERTIES dialog; one good point- it does'nt crash sage if I click on it, like it use to.

I can attest to the fact that 67.22 made my dvd video crazy as all get out; when I reinstalled 67.03, those problems went away..

If you dont have the decoders set to VPP you cannt (or at least I cannt) access the properties of the decoders.

Once in there though, there are no settings for the adaptive pixel thingie.

I can access the properties using either the Nvidia Post Processor or Nvidia Decoder option; but ONLY when playing back an MPEG.
