Sage Client Connection Problems
I am experiencing trouble connecting to my sage server from my sage tv client.
My HTPC is located in my living room and it holds all of my tv shows, my tv tuner cards and is running Sage TV 2.1 on Win XP Pro Service Pack 2. When I try to watch TV from my laptop (Sage TV Client 2.1 Win XP Pro Service Pack 2) it tells me that it is "Unable to connect to SageTV Server at specified address." I checked my HTPC to make sure that the Sage Server option was enabled. Both computers are connected by Cat 5 cables to my router. And I can see the shared folders from my HTPC on the network. I can even watch pre-recorded shows by opening them in Media Player, but Sage TV Client won't detect them. I never had this problem before I upgraded to Sage TV 2.1. Can anybody help me? |

Did you check firewall settings to make sure those programs are allowed through the network? I don't know about the SP2 firewall, but with ZoneAlarm, I have to allow them through the firewall every time the exe changes after an upgrade.

Yes, I checked my firewall...That's not the issue. I actually tried disabling it and running sagetv client...I still had trouble connecting.

OK, so it's not the SP2 firewall....what else may the problem be?
I am having similar issues and I am not running any personal firewall software nor am I on XP SP2... Does anyone know what port Sage Server uses? I wouldn't mind trying a port scan to see if it's even listening... Thanks, Rob Spangler |

The server listens on port 42024.
You can see if this port is open by runnign netstat -a in a command prompt on the server. You can test if you can connect to this port both on the server and on the client using telnet serverip 42024 (use CTRL-] then close to quit telnet). |

I tried testing the port ("telnet serverip 42024") and i got the following error message: "Could not open connection to the host, on port 42024: Connect failed"
I got that message on both the server and the client computers. I disabled my firewall during this process. Do you have any idea how i can enable that port? |
