the last time i delved into ati land was when i had my 9500 pro and i could get 1080i working over dvi out of that (using powerstrip) but got massive audio stuttering although the video was pretty smooth - i sold that card to a friend but i have since learnt that the audio stuttering was a conflict between that card and the onboard realtek spdif audio i was using.

so with that in mind i'm on the fence between off loading my fx5900xt (man that thing is quiet for a stock card) and picking up a 9550 extreme/9600 pro or maybe a used 9700 or 9800 (either one of those would have to be 256-bit to consider them though)

the whole 6600gt thing is really annoying me though because it's a great card but all i keep seeing is people bitching that it's using high cpu for wmv-hd and even dvd playback.

maybe those doing the bitching just don't have dxva enabled - not that dxva would help wmv-hd.

my only problem now is that I can't get 1080i through my DVI output to DVI in on the TV. It works perfectly with component, but if I try the same settings with DVI (or try adjusting the underscan percentages in the nvidia control software) the screen just goes blank.

I've tried 67.03 and it still does it. 70.90 worked great, though.
Regarding this:

I have never gotten 1080i to work long on my ATI though out of DVI. What info do you have on that?
I have a plain 9600 fanless card, and have it working with 1080i using Cat 4.8. It's overscanned, but it doesn't bother me since I just adjust the SageTV interface to fit within my screen.

I just followed these instructions.

To get 1080i with DVI I just go to to Properties > Advanced > FPD > Troubleshoot. From there I just check both the "force 720" and "force 1080" checkboxes.

The annoying thing is that after a reboot I have to do the samething again for it to work. Not too bad since I hardly ever reboot or shutdown my HTPC.

I get that far with the ATI DVI at 1080i but then when I run some apps, MCE and ZP, it goes haywire and out of zync.

That sucks! Running Sage, BTV, and Theatertek has been fine with it for me.
