New Recode AVC profile playable?
does anybody know if Sage is able to play videos compressed with the h.264 codec? I just tried the new version of Recode with mp4 AVC, and I really love it. I would like to archive alot of my favorite dvd's onto hard drive in this codec and be able to play them through Sage.
I found a thread: http://forums.freytechnologies.com/f...&highlight=mp4 That explains how to get Sage to play a regualr mp4 however I am unable to get the mp4 file to show as of yet. But I am sure I will overcome this. But is getting the AVC mp4 to play going to be possible? |

Can you play them in Windows Media Player and/or zoomplayer? If so, Sage should be able to play them.

No not in WMP but I only have version 9. I will try to update to 10 to see if that makes a difference. I do not have zoom installed.
If I can in fact get the files to play... Is it possible to populate the details of an imported file? If say I recoded the Matrix, would I somehow be able to cut and paste info from IMDB website into Sage somewhere so that the file would show the details in Sage? |

upgraded to WMP10 and it will not play.
I am curious if Nero's version of the H.264 is different than others? If so, does anybody know of another encoder that will do H.264 that can be playable in sage? |

I think the question is more if there are standard directshow filters for H.264, if so then they should play in Sage, or any other Dshow app for that matter.

did some reading on Nero's H.264 and it seems that it is NOT DirectShow compatible. So I guess for now that I am out of luck...

DVD,
Try this one http://www.videosoftinc.com/decoders.html and then see if you can play the files in WMP. Also, I had to create a new file type / association before I got the .mp4 to work in WMP and Sage. |

Hey Korben,
I have downloaded and installed the directshow program but what association should I create for the MP4 file extension? Right now it is associated with Nero Showtime. |

from what i read over at doom9 the VLC program can play the new nero codec but you have to limit (turn off) some of the compression processes for it to be compatible.

If you mean HERE then I already read it. I used their advice and unchecked the appropiate features to make it compatible. I still get a blank screen. I am using the trial version of Recode right now. Maybe that is the difference, but I don't think so...

yep that's the post i'm referring to. i personally never could get the previous version of nero digital to work in sage and the fact that i could encode xvid's using autogk and keep the ac3 audio in tact was why i've always stuck with that.
the new codec looks very impressive but i'm pretty happy with the results i get from xvid 1.1 and ffdshow to render. |

What does media_player_plugin_class do? Is this what I need to configure to get SAGE to support H.264 mp4's?

Have you tried Moonlight's (aka Elecard) H.264 player/decoder?

Now that I fixed my MP4 playback problem I want to Client up my house. Cellar family room Main HTPC Sage Server. 2 bedrooms and living room. But first, I just want to know if there are any problems playing Nero recoded files in "NON" avc format in client software..?
Plus, does anybody suggest that I buy the uirt from Sage without the 56Khz or from uirt site with it? I will be controlling 3 cable boxes All scientific Atlanta 3000 series. Sorry, I read some things about the uirt but the 56Khz addon is still alluding me... |

![]() As for playing it on the client, if it plays on the server and you have your paths setup correctly you should be able to play it on the client. Quote:

If you were able to get the AVC profile .mp4 videos to play in Sage, then you have found the right DirectShow filter, and you should install this codec on all your client machines as well.
Care to elaborate on which codec did the trick?

Well sorry, Very POOR choose of words on my part. Did not mean to get hopes up. What I meant was that I settled for the standard NON AVC profile in Nero.... I only wish I fixed it...
What will end up happening is that I will get ALL my dvd's encoded and THEN Sage will support H.264 or Someone will Hack Nero's codec to be directshow compatible. Thanx 89, I am ordering it via Sage.com now..... |

Ok.
I sat down with GraphEdit to see if I could figure out why I got regular .mp4 videos to play in Sage but not the new AVC profile .mp4 videos. I inserted File Source (Async.), picked The Fifth Element.mp4 , inserted the Video Render (vmr7), and connected them. GraphEdit automatically inserted the 3ivx splitter and 3ivx video decoder, and I was able to play the video.I repeated the same procedure with an AVC .mp4 video, but no matter what I tried, the File Source (Async.) was unable to make a connection with any splitter or demuxer. Then I saw "Nero Digital Parser". Inserted it, selected the same AVC .mp4, and connected it to the Video Render (vmr7). GraphEdit automatically inserted Nero Video Decoder, and I was able to play the file. So it would appear the new Nero AVC .mp4 video files are not compatible with the standard File Source (Async.) DirectShow filter. |

dvd_maniac - if your settling why not just use xvid via autogk then? at least that way the image quality and file size will be the same as standard nero but you have the option to preserve the ac3 audio if you like? (files will be bigger that way though)
plus you will have an encode that will play on any divx capable client box or dvd player. |
