What is it I am seeing?
OK, I have my first official question for the forum; I think I already know the answer but here goes. I am sitting here watching Stargate on Sci-Fi. and my video settings are VMR9, Nvidia VPP, Mode C, Bob & Weave. Now, down at the bottom of my screen, I see what could be descrined as a distortion in the lower horizontal 1" of the screen. It is almost a magnifying effect..has anyone seen or experienced what I am talking about; if so, what do you call it? I have been reading up on the problem and it sounds to me like it may be the whole SP2/DirectX 9.0c problem, but I am not sure...I would take a screen capture; however I am not certain if it would be clear enough to show what I am attempting to describe. I have also included a screen capture of the Nvidia decoder settings I am currently using...
Thanks Everyone! -Dan ![]()

I don't think your screenshot shows what you intended
![]() ![]() The DX9c thing affects VMR9 only AFAIK, it looks like you're using Overlay. |

Hi Stanger:
Thanks for replying; actually the only thing I intended to show in that graphic was the settings for the Nvidia decoder. I AM running with VMR9; if you would like I can get a screen dump of those settings in SAGE as well. I am curious how the picture led you to conclude I was using Overlay? Maybe we are not seeing the same thing? Thank You for Your Help -Dan

Reason he suspected Overlay is because you do get a black screen for any video playing when you do a screen capture when using Overlay.

In this case, this was because I cropped the info out of the graphic and the background ended up being black; sorry for the confusion

Well, in that case, an actual screenshot may help, since I can't really visualize the effect you describe

Stanger:
Here is snippit of the picture I was referring to; this is with VMR9 on; it almost looks like a smearing of the video at the bottom most portion of the picture, and I apologize but it is hard to see. It is most noticeable with closing credits that go all the way to the bottom of the screen. Is it possible my vertical stretch needs to be changed? Anyway, your help much appreciated. -Dan Quote:

I've seen that, but the question is where
![]() Do you have ffdshow installed? |

looks like tearing to me
change the deinterlacing mode and method to default in SageTV this may reduce the amount of tearing the only settings in the nvidia task bar icon are important when using NvVPP is the aspect ratio and of course the deinterlacing mode must be smart |

actually to me it looks more like the information contained in all broadcast material that would usually be in the overscanned portion of a picture at the top and bottom of the set.
if you watch an espn ticker is there quite a gap between the bottom of the ticker and the actual bottom of the screen? if so then you just need to adjust your sage zoom settings to expand the image some more to hide this. the similar info at the top of the screen from some stations usually looks like a think black bar with white lines running through it. |

I thought about the zooming option; I will give that a shot; I have tried the different deinterlacing modes and have not noticed any improvement. I looked for a representation of what "tearing" was, but never saw one. If there is such a link I have missed it in my searches. At any rate, I will try the zoom overscan and see what happens..Thanks!

Yes, I have it installed; but frankly haven't seen any improvement to justify using it; especially considering it eats up CPU like nobody's business. I am still researching and seeing if I have it configured wrong. If memory serves you do not currently use it either right? -Dan

Yeah, but I was trying to remember what I did that caused that, and ffdshow was the only thing that came to mind. If you aren't using ffdshow you might want to try disabling "Raw Video" in the codecs section (of ffdshow) and/or uninstall it.
And it's sort of driving me crazy because I know I've seen that exact thing, it's like the bottorm row of pixels is smeared strait down, but I just can't remember what caused it. |

yeah with my client with the 5200
I does this but near the top when using NvVPP and VMR9 it is tearing but caused by the post processing of the image they fixed the Fast fowarding bug anyway with VMR9 in the newest beta so you might want to give that and Nvidia decoder a try instead of using the nvidia post processor |
