Connecting VCR to 250 for playing in Sage?

Since I play sage to a computer monitor I need a way to get composite video and audio in the computer when I want to watch tapes.

I have a couple Hauppage 250s both with CATV running ito them. Can I hook up the VCR to one of the 250s in addition to the CATV cable and watch the VCR's output in Sage as if the VCR was a channel?

If so, how do I do that?

probably best to use composite cables and setup the VCR as a new source with no epg data

I have my VCR setup through sage tv. I connected it to the composite port of a pvr250.

Then I created a dummy XMLTV file with 3 channels assigned to numbers 0,1,2 and names VCR ON/OFF, VCR PLay, VCR STOP.
When defining the VCR capture device, I teach sage tv through USBUIRT the rc key presses as follows:

"0" - VCR Remote Power on/off
"1" - VCR Remote Play button
"2" - VCR Remote Stop Button

Then from the EPG I can turn the VCR on by selecting channel 0,

Play a tape by selecting channel 1 and stop a tape by selecting channel 2.

Hope this helps in giving you ideas on how to connect your vcr.

be aware that depending on your VCR, playing back bought video tapes may be problematic due to the macrovision copy protection that is on these tapes (the recording will go black after a few seconds once the PVR-250 realises there is a copy protection signal on the tape)
