Controlling Sky digibox Plan B - Redeye

OK, So it doesn't look like anyone else has managed to get their SageTV box to switch channels on their Sky digibox with a serial cable - Except me, and now it's stopped working I don't know what I did to make it work in the first place. Bah.

So, plan B is the Redeye controller. Could someone please tell me how to set up one of these?
Even though it's not for a sky digibox I tried the instructions here but without much luck (without any luck actually)

I don't know about the infared controller that you are planning to use, but I set mine up with the usb-irt box. Sage has settings built in to automatically set up the channels.

It asks you to point the remote controller at the usbirt then it asks you to press the numbers 0-9 so it can recognise them. Once its gone through them, you only need to make certain that the channels in the epg are mapped to the correct channel numbers - ie. bbc1 = 101 bbc2 =102 etc...

However, to do the same with the equipment that you have, you may need to use another piece of software to do that - I've seen references to girder a lot on this forum.

I would love to have serial working.
What sort of cable did you use?
I have been google-ing and can not find any info about the serial port on the box

Just your normal, everyday 9 pin serial to serial cable.

I swear I had it working once. I popped the lead in to try it, fully expecting it to do nothing and it worked, but it looks like that was a one off. I've reinstalled about 3 times trying to get it back but - nothing :-(.

Looks like I'm going to have to shell out another thirty-odd pounds for a USB-UIRT and live with something the size of a box of matches jammed between the front of my sky box and the glass door of the cabinet it's in.

I did read somewhere (can't remember if it was this forum or another) that the serial port on the back of the sky box is actually for a game pad controller. dunno if there's any truth to that though.

You can always plug an extension into the UIRT, then the IR thingie is quite small

yeah, that won't be so bad.

anyway, it looks like the rs232 port on the digibox is for a gamepad

I tried the serial cable aswell but it didn't work either. Were you using your Sky remote to control Sage? If so it could just simply be that Sage AND your sky box were picking up the same signal.
