Linux client?

I saw a thread about a year old mentioning this. I want to run a few clients, and Xboxes are cheap (read 3 words: Halo 2 LAN Party!), have MPEG 2 decoding, and remotes (which may or may not work).
I just bought SageTV and came here, so sorry if this has been mentioned recently.

I wouldn't hold my breath. I don't think Jeff has any intention of porting sagetv to linux. I know people have offered to help port it to other platforms and have been refused.

Since it is written in Java, I would not be surprised to see a Linux version of the client, but the server may not be likely. I am hoping for a MacOS version of the client, but I think that I will be behind the Linux folks .

We have enough issues with the Windows version. Why port problems.

How else can you get a P3 for around $250, including component out, Ethernet, 8 GB HD, and MPEG-2 decoding? Tell me, and I'll be sure to add $80 for a Windows license. Basically, price.

I personally would rather see a Linux implementation than Windows for the clients. The reason is simply because linux will allow for an OS to be loaded via PXE or even CD to run the client workstation instead of having to have a full Windows implementation.

If done correctly, a free PXE server could even be included in the SAGETV software, and a pre-configured monolythic kernel that's already pre-configured to work with everything known to man setup out of the box.

Even better than that would be the fact that there would be almost no moving parts required in the client. And, if done correctly, a very very old machine could be used with say a PVR-350 to handle the decoding and OSD and make a very quiet and very cheap client.

I mean realistically, I've got hardware just sitting in the closet that would work perfectly for this that could easily be used for this purpose if there was only a client for linux.
