Embarrassingly basic question
I'm sure this is really obvious but could someone point me in the right direction here?
I'm new to the world of Sage TV and I live in the UK. Just how do i set up channels for Sky? The Sage documentation doesn't give much details beyond "If outside the US, Use XMLTV" I've downloaded and ran this: http://www.alanbirtles.dsl.pipex.com/xmltv/xmltv.htm but that's about as far as I've got on my own. So, using a clean install of Sage as a starting point could someone take me through how to add Sky's channels in? Thanks |

It's not embarassing: the XMLTV instructions are really poor -- because they are not supported by Sage...
There is a HOWTO here: http://forums.sage.tv/forums/showthread.php?t=1484 but it includes irrelevant stuff for the US and is out of date.. There is a better plugin here for UK data: http://forums.freytechnologies.com/f...&threadid=2234 This will get the EPG data into Sage, but then you have to remap the imported channels to the real channel numbers because the XMLTV data has no idea of which frequency your broadcasters use, and will just put everything in a semi-random order... For analogue channels, it might be better as a first stage to set up a source with no data, then go through each channel number in turn finding out what broadcaster is on it -- you can then use this information later to remap the imported channels. Other users might be better suited to give advice on getting Sage to change channels on the digibox automatically using a IR transmitter... |

Thanks al lot for those, it was just what I needed. I did however have a small problem.
Long story short I was using xmltv 0.5.34 but now I see it's 0.5.35 that has the new tv_grab_uk_rt in it. However this is only available as a .tar.bz2 file (which i assume is linux) is there a .zip available? or some other solution? Thanks again |

Now you've set up the rest of the stuff, if you've got the listings grabber from http://www.alanbirtles.dsl.pipex.com/xmltv/xmltv.htm then you just need to grab the output from that, change the name to epgdata.xml and put it into your sage directory.

Ah! right. ok. So that'll take care of setting up my channels too then? (although i understand they may need remapped), or do i need to do something with the channels.txt/user.channels.txt files too?
Given that the xmltv i was using in my clean install was an old one, i have no channels at all at the moment. Anyhoo, Thanks. I'll give that a bash tonight. One last thing. Could someone give me an example of the daily batch file for that? is it simply a case of running xmltvtr with the /grab command then moving the .xml it produces into the sage directory or is there more to it? |

i don't know about importing into sage but there is no need to move/raname the output as the grabber already has an option to save the output to whatever file you like, goto configure then save listings to

I'm almost there!
OK So all the channels are in and looking good and I'm part way through remapping them to their correct channel numbers. Now the thing is when I first installed sage I set it up with no channel info (all the channels were called "Composite Hauppuage wintv PVR PCI II Capture composite") but the sage box could change the channels on the Sky digibox with a serial lead connection - I could flick up or down stations or tap in a number directly like 106 for Sky One. Beautiful I though, 1 less thing to worry about. The thing is, The Sage box no longer seems to be able to control the Sky Digibox. Am I missing something? (I have 'DirectTV serial connection' set up on Com1, just like I did the first time round when it worked) |
