Something about the forums seems different now

Last time I was here on the forums was last night. Now it's early morning, around 4 a.m. Has something changed with the forums? Does anyone know? I can't quite put my finger on it, but I think there might be something different with the forums. I don't know for sure, but I think there were some changes. Am I right? Or is it just me? Does anyone else have an odd sense that the forums kind of look different now?

PaulG, I guess you're right. I'm sure it will all look the same to me when I get back up in the morning. Right now, though, in my half-asleep condition, everything seems like it has a pastel look.

How do I mark forums read from the new posts window? Did I miss it? I had to go back to the top then hit mark forums read.

Actually, it won't look any different in the morning . This is the default VB3 skin. Wonder if they'll install any alternates that we can choose? (There are a bunch of there, if they want to know where to go get 'em, PM me, I got a TON of VB links bookmarked for skins & such).

I was a big fan of the old color scheme.

I'm also troubled by the amount of space wasted in the bar that contains the member name/avatar/join date/etc.

It seems the forum is a little snappier, though, and there wasn't a dark period between 7:30 and 8:30 am EST.

True, there is a lot of space up there, and the names are huge. But overall I think it's much better.

You can click on "Quick Links" on the title bar while viewing the New Posts & you'll see some options. (Or is that what you meant by "go back to the top"?)

Oh -- and I was wondering if names could go back to the left too... but on the other hand, now the posts use less vertical space since they have the full width to display in. I'm not too decisive today.

Under the old layout, mosts posts used all or nearly all of the vertical space that was necessary to render the names stuff on the left.

Especially when people list the entire contents of their living room in their signatures. Grr.

<----- needs to find a happy place this morning

whoops... can't point at myself with that technique anymore!

Anyway, a compromise would be nice. Having the avatar on the top is awful, but it might be possible to spread everything but the name and avatar across a slimmer top bar in order to really use the space optimally.

Of course, I'm just howling at the moon.

The best thing about the new forum is that I now get subscribed to threads when I post in them. Yay! This is worth double the cost of the layout problems to me. Yay!

That must be a setting in the User CP... I was always automatically subscribed in the old forum.

BTW -- I thought about taking inventory of my living room, but we never furnished it: it only has kids' toys.

Yeah, I think everybody will end up liking the features on the 3.0 version of the forums here . If you haven't turned it on yet, turn on the WYSIWYG editor, and try that for your messages, VERY cool...
