Parental Lockouts and Shared Drives

Just a curiosity, but this may become important as my child gets a little older. Does a drive have to shared along the network to work on a client. All of my media drives are located on the SageTV server. My question is "Can SageTVClient" work w/o seeing the shared drive"(ie. Is the video streamed through a port). This is important since every other application like this that I have used and that has parental controls needs to see the shared drive. This makes the lockouts useless since that child will probably quickly figure out how to access the files outside of the main program and use another media player to play the files. If the answer is that the drives need to be shared, does anyone else have a solution to this problem?

The dirs/drives on the SageTV server do not need to be visible to the client PC for SageTVClient to work -- the video is streamed through SageTV. While I have my video dirs shared, they have not all been shared in the past & it still worked just fine.

Lain,

The only time you need to have a drive shared is if you are using SageTV Recorder to integrate a remote tuner into your SageTV system. SageTV will stream the video from the server to the client in its own, so the client does not need to have access to the directories that store the programming.

If you get to the point where you outgrow the storage on the local machine, you will need to share the directories that you use for external storage. There is currently no way to cause certian programs to be recorded to specific directories (i.e., have program X recorded to the unshared directories only). If this is a need, you may want to submit a request.
