Angry Close file deleted my recording

Ya know, could this program be anymore idiotic. I'm sorry, but this is too much.

I was watching the Olympics last night with SageTV. It recorded the whole event and I periodically checked up on the file size of the recording to make sure it was recording it. The Olympics ended, I wanted it to stop recording, so I right clicked and selected close file. Next thing I know, my 6 gig recording is gone. What gives?

Is it only me or is there no way to easily stop recording and end the program? Do I just click the X in the upper right corner and shut the program down and then start it again to do maintenance on other recordings. I read the faq and it seems like a completely doable request to just add a stop feature or am I the only person that finds this completely stupid?

I'm so glad I paid for this software!

Were you recording this as a Manual Recording or a Favorite? Or were you just watching it?

Just watching it. Thanks for the quick response!

I'm doing the exact same thing I did last night, right now.

I'd like to not have this one deleted tonight.

My wife really wanted to see the end of the gymnastics. Oh well.

With the default settings, live TV recordings are deleted when they are done. If you want to keep the show, use the Record command (ctrl-y, or record button on Hauppauge remote) to mark it as a manual recording. Or, while watching it, use the Options command (ctrl-o, right click, or yellow button on Hauppaueg remote) while watching, choose Detailed Info, then select Record.

you might want to pad that recording as well

set it up as a favorite
and you will get it from beginning to end as well

So tonight, I pressed record and gave it a buffer at both the beginning and end. Now if I stop this early with close file, will it delete the entire recording?

no it will not delete the file and continue to record as well if you use the stop/close file button

but do not close sageTV
use sleep

and leave the computer running

Yeah, but I just deleted a favorite from my schedule and all of the recordings along with it? Neat!

Ya know the software doesn't suck, just the documentation that came with it. Were it not for this forum, the software would suck! How hard is it to document the idiosyncrasies of this software?

they will have to get a manual out for when studio is released
or it will be very very busy here at the forum

with only the five or so beta testers knowing what they are doing

maybe meedio TV will push SageTV to release Studio who knows though

I think if you remove a Favorite it warns you that the files will be deleted. If you want there is a properties file configuration you can set that will only delete files as space is needed and not delete anything right away.

Edit the properties file while SageTV is completely closed and set:

seeker/clear_partials_and_unwanted_when_ir_off=false

Quote:
seeker/clear_partials_and_unwanted_when_ir_off - true/false deletes all recordings that were not requested but made due to timeshifting when Intelligent Recording is disabled
Then, you won't have to worry about things getting deleted before you want them too. The auto-delete seems a tad bit aggressive.

Edit: Note that manual recordings are never automatically deleted.

Thanks a lot guys. This forum rocks.

kny3twalker: It does warn you when you delete a favorite. I assume the property to adjust the deleteing of favorites is in sage.properties.

Same property I mentioned above. Once you delete a fav, its recordings become just 'normal things to delete', unless you've marked any of them as manual recordings.
