Problems with SP2

Before you go and install it, have a look at the number of programs that have problems.

The scarey part is how many are Micro$oft's!

I've read the same thing all over, but people just don't realize the problems are mostly with the firewall blocking the application and things like that. Most Antivirus & firewall programs 'problems' with SP2 is that it's not integrated with the security features built in, and the console will tell you there's no AV or FW installed, or doesn't know it's updated or not.

Even with Microsoft's software, most of the 'problems' are very small. I run most of the apps from Microsoft that are on that list, and I've not experienced any problems at all.

Check out the story on this here:

Microsoft SP2 problems

Here's a quote of the most important part:

"In virtually all cases this just needs manual port allocation," said Paul Randle, product marketing manager for SP2.

"In some cases it is also affecting older versions of software that are not a top priority for software vendors to test. We will keep the list up to date in the future."

Yeah, I know. Lots of folks are going to see their page and come to the conclusion that SP2 isn't worth going to, when in fact it's a definite good upgrade .

Yeah -- it made me wonder: my network backup program (Retrospect Client) is listed, now I'll have to go check on that.

Edit: works just fine. It just seems to have problems when th eproper ports aren't opened & for people only using the built-in firewal, Dantz has pages to tell people how to get Retrospect working.
