Recorder and Client running on same machine?

I have a configuration question that I haven't been able to sort out thru the forums. I want to use network encoding with Hauppauge PVR-250 in the SageTV server and Hauppauge PVR-350 in the client machine. I've reviewed the doc in configuration section of this forum that says that to use a network encoder it requires Sage TV Recorder in the machine with the PVR-350, then install SageTV in the server machine. Doing this should allow the network encoder to show up during SageTV install.

So the question is can I run SageTV client in the same machine as the network encoder and Sage Recorder to access the program guide etc. in the SageTV server? Is Sage Recorder even necessary, or will SageTV client suffice in the 350 machine, and still allow the network encoder in the client machine be available to SageTV server in the main computer using the 250? Its not clear to me; any help will be appreciated.

The SageTV client, Sage Recorder and the network encoder card all go on the same computer. The SageTV client is what is used to view programs and access the program guide. The Sage Recorder is only needed if you want to record using the card in the client computer. Depending upon what you want the client to do you have either the SageTV client or the Sage Recorder or both.

My system has two PVR-250s in the server and one PVR-350 in the client, connected to the TV. I run both the SageTV Client and SageTV Recorder so that I can use the full abilities of the PVR-350. Since the encoder in the 350 is over the network, it has the lowest priority of all of the encoders. This works great for me since I split the signal (via an A/V switch that has both S-Video and composite outputs) so I can route the data back into the non-RF input. It is a great way to create demo DVDs for friends (muhahahahah). I have gotten two other people to purchase Sage systems, so far.

Thanks Carlgar and Fidget; I knew someone would be able to easily answer this for me! I'll be setting up my system similar to the layout Fidget describes. Will report back on how well it works.
