Recommendations for new hardware
I'm thinking of replacing at least the motherboard and CPU on my 2010 vintage SageTV server. I'm currently running a ASUS P7H55D-EVO LGA 1156 Motherboard, Intel Core I5-661 overclocked to about 3.8ghz, Windows 7. I'd like to go to a current hardware platform with Windows 10 64 bit, maybe Pro.
I have 3 3.5" HDDs and one SSD. This is my current mATX case, which I might reuse: ![]() Do these wish lists look likely to work? Also, are onboard USB ports still a problem like they were many years ago? The Mini-ITX board doesn't have any slots except the one for the GPU card. mATX Intel: https://secure.newegg.com/Wishlist/S...EIG6QV0A%3d%3d Mini ITX Intel: https://secure.newegg.com/Wishlist/S...7wPOgHYcfgA%3d mATX AMD: https://secure.newegg.com/Wishlist/S...orAxTSXA%3d%3d The storage configurations on these cases use inverted and vertical positioning, a bit unnerving but probably not an actual problem.

Thanks! I put this together February 2010. I tried unplugging my tuners from the USB card and plugging into the motherboard USB. Not a problem. I'm going with this build: https://secure.newegg.com/Wishlist/S...cJhbOD3RbHw%3d

My big puzzle lately is Intel vs. AMD. It's almost like Ford vs. Chevy these days.

It REALLY boil down to what app you plan on using it with. Intel has the better support when come Linux transcoding with it QuickSync with it integrated video. AMD has better price and more steam count then Nvidia with it lock 2 steam count unless you can get the mod driver which unlock this with Windows. In just case of SageTV I think and Ryzen 3200G or 3400G better value being all those Benchmark with Core i3-9100F are using discrete GPU as this CPU doesn't have an integrated video card which add more cost unless you got a newer GPU. |

In comparison to the old, quad-core Pentium I’m running for my Sage server, how does this Ryzen compare? I too am thinking of building a new Sage box, but am nervous investing any money as I watch key-developer after key-developer abandoning the Sage platform....

Do you need a discrete video card? I am not as sure about AMD processors but Intel CPUs have more than enough onboard power for displaying video.

Yes it has more the enough onboard power for displaying video as I have really old AMD APU A10-5800K

Yes if it's an APU. The Ryzen 5 2600 doesn't have an integrated GPU.

I refer to more update APU like Ryzen 2200/3200G, 2400/3400G as my old AMD APU A10-5800K dose just fine but which is many gen old vs the new APU

I built the thing. Still trying to sort it out. Can't find favorites, Eventghost is FUBAR and every show lost TV station info.

All good now. USB-UUIRT drivers needed replaced. Reinstalled without Sage.properties.

Now if I could just figure out how to lift my EventGhost tree out of my old hard drive!

USB-UIRT currently has a limitation: it can't talk to 32-bit and 64-bit programs at the same time. If running the Sage-x64 service, you'll need to install/run the 64-bit version of EventGhost.

Thanks for the reminder. I asked Eventghost for 64 bit years ago. I was able to use it when I was using the IR blaster that came with the HDPVR-2 to change channels.
