Xfinity X1 and USB-UIRT working?

Anyone using USB-UIRT to IR control the channel on Xfinity X1 TV boxes?

Could you share the IR file?

How reliable is the IR control? 100%, 95%?

As far as I tested XG2, XG1-P and XG1-A at my friends house, they all seem using the same IR code because one IR remote can control them all.

Now I'm considering to get USB-UIRT and either XG2 or XG1 to IR control the channel.
But I cannot find a post mentioning for USB-UIRT controling Xfinity X1 TV boxes.

I really appreciate if you can share your experience with using USB-UIRT to channel control Xfinity X1.

Although I'm not currently doing so, my experience has been that all of Comcast's STBs use the same IR control codes. Using Sage's built-in IR codeset for the Motorola DCT-3200 has worked just fine. Reliability of the IR itself has been nearly 100%.

However.... I strongly recommend using a CableCard and an HDHomeRun Prime tuner instead of the STB for video capture. Reasons:

1) This approach doesn't require you to (endlessly) manually update the channel #s as Comcast shuffles programming between channels. Don't under-estimate the hassle and grief this will cause. With a CC, it's taken care of automagically.

2) Much more reliable. Don't have to deal with the STB going into standby mode (or reboot) at inopportune times.

3) Less hardware required. A single HDHR Prime can capture 3 simultaneous video streams directly. No USB-UIRT and video capture device(s) needed.

4) Cheaper. Renting a CableCard from Comcast typically only costs $3/month (recently reduced to free in my area) instead of $7-$10/mo for a DTA or STB.

I want to echo JustFred's comments. Go cable card with Comcast service. The reliability and quality with OpenDCT in Sage can't be beat. The first cable card is free and Comcast is very good about making sure all non-premium channels have no copy restrictions. You may still need a cable box for premium channels.

Unfortunately, Comcast changed the IR code for Xfinity X1 and I'm looking for the IR codeset for X1.

Thank you for your suggestion. However, I'm currently migrating from Comcast digital (non-X1) to Xfinity X1 and I'm looking for someone who has successfully made IR control (especially USB-UIRT) working with Xfinity X1.

I am using a USB-UIRT with the XFinity X1 RNG150N STB devices. The codes I am using (I have 2 STBs controlled by 1 USB-UIRT in zones)

I set this up a couple of years ago, so if you need further specifics, let me know and I'll go back and see if I can refresh my memory.

I really appreiate that.

A few question about your IR file.

1. How reliable is the channel control?

2. What does the EXIT next to ENTER do? ENTER is required for X1 but what to do with EXIT?

3. Why do you need to specify DeviceNumber? Because you may have more than one USB-UIRT?

4. Don't you need RepeatCount?

5. How did you obtain the code?

By the way, I just picked up RNG150N (Pace PR150BNM) at the local Comcast store which I verified with the rep that it is X1. I hooked it up and it took an hour to complete the initialization but it came up with iGuide interface not X1 interface. The comcast tech support insists that it's a X1 box and it should update to X1 automatically but it never updates to X1.

Rename RNG150N-1L.ir this for Zone 2
Copy the file to
32bit ver of SageTV C:\Program Files (x86)\SageTV\Common\RemoteCodes\USB-UIRT Transceiver\
or
64bit ver of SageTV C:\Program Files\SageTV\Common\RemoteCodes\USB-UIRT Transceiver\

The other post was for Zone 1
lookup USB-UIRT setup here

Anyone using USB-UIRT and successfully controlling XG2, XG1-P or XG1-A?

As I'm having trouble to make RNG150N to run in X1 interface, I'm considering these newer X1 boxes. The problem is, if I understand correctly, the IR code is different between RNG150N and other newer X1 boxes.

You should be able to learn the code from with in SageTV but if not working then used lrnhelper0.5.exe to manuel build the code http://www.usbuirt.com/lrnhelper_0_0_5.zip

I found some X1 code

I think new X1 boxes will come with XR15 remote which is RF only. How do you learn IR code? Perhaps using older IR remote?

A few question about your IR file.

1. How reliable is the channel control?
I use cables like this: ebay.com:TiVo-to-DTA-Cable-Box-Infrared-IR-Direct-Connect-Cable-Replaces-IR-Blaster, so channel changing is very reliable once I get everything stabilized

Sometimes the boxes get into a wierd state, so I like to send an Exit before I try to do channel changes.

I do have more than one USB-UIRT on my system

Since I use a DTA cable, I don't need Repeat Count. At least, I haven't had any problems.

I probably "learned" them. Or I may have found one out in the wild and learned/adapted it to myself. I've been using this setup for at least a couple of years, so I've kind of forgotten some of those specifics.

The comcast tech support insists that it's a X1 box and it should update to X1 automatically but it never updates to X1.
I am using the Pace PR150BNM. But, since I have them dedicated solely to Sagetv, and I am mainly using them for Premium channel recording (I have a couple of HDHR-3-CC devices for non-premium channels), I don't really care what interface they have, as long as they tune the channels I want, and do so when I want without getting into a snit.

It sounds very promising.

So the last one in the line is for the code to be sent before the numbers, and the 2nd last one is for the code to be sent after the numbers?

It makes sense.

I don't care the interface as well but the HD channel I want can be tuned on X1 only. That is the only reason I have to migrate to X1.

I’m pretty sure DeviceNumber needs to be there no matter how many you have since the “multi” version of the driver expects that row to be there.

I checked the source code and it is indeed optional. I remembered it wrong.
