VMR9 Tearing

VMR9 tearing is a common issue around here. I thought it might be useful to gather some information on who's running VMR9, if they have tearing problems, and what their hardware is.

You can vote more than once, if you have more than one setup.

So if you'd vote in the poll, and then answer the following questions that would be great

Does resolution make a difference? (ie is it worse at higher resolutions?)

Do drivers make a difference?

What's the rest of your config? (Processor, RAM, speeds of each)

And since there are a number of threads discussing VMR9 tearing, please keep discussion of possible solutions to those so that this thread remains as clean as possible.

Thanks for the help

Tearing - yes

Radeon 9500 non-pro 64MB Catalyst 4.7
P4 2.4B 533MHz FSB
Abit BE-7 i845
512MB Corsair XMS 2700LL
Win XP SP1a DX9.0b

Resolution doesn't matter,

Tearing exists with all drivers (Cat 4.7 may be slighly reduced).

I hope it is the same difference
current drivers
on a side note CAT 4.7 seem kind of buggy they crash Counterstrike alot (never had this problem before)

Tearing and stuttering are the same problem. If you have the problem you will get one, just depends on which one you want .

LOL

Yeah

and I said this before but you can disable DXVA in the decoder being used for vMR9 rendering and the playback is smooth with no tearing
but the blur factor is really bad

Maybe it's a stupid question, but does anyone have a screen cap of tearing? Can it be seen on a still frame? I'm not running Sage2/VMR9 yet, but if/when I do upgrade, I'd like to know what I'm looking for. Is tearing fairly self-evident?

Thx!

Jason

I've tried but haven't ever been able to acutally capture a tear. But yes it's very obvious if it happens.

FWIW I did this in photoshop to simulate a tear:

Video Tearing is usely cause by vsync error there are number of thing that can cause this it pettey much the same thing when games dose this when VSync is off when doing FAST AS POSSABLE Benchmark.
Oh mlbdude stuttering are not the same problem they are diff more long the line of pauses/freezing issues which was a very common issue with PC games which all apply video/audio as well.

I mean they are a symptom of the same problem (basically video card not being capable of keeping up with the video) since you can enable VSync to kill th tearing but now get the stuttering instead.

I have a feeling not everyone is as "sensitive" as others and the issue can easily be overlooked. Maybe we are just too picky?

No way...WAF goes down huge when tearing happens.

No, I meant the people voting 'No Tearing" probably are just not noticing it. Tearing sucks . Thankfully though Sage allows us to go back to Overlay.

Has anyone else with this problem tried DX 9c? It was rumored to help this out.

I don't see tearing on one of my clients, a p4 2.53 with a 9700pro, stared at it for minutes staight withouts seeing anything. Someone else with a 9800pro didn't see any either so I'm not the only one.

And I know what tearing looks like, I've seen lots of it on my Sage server, a 2.0 celeron with 845GV, onboard Intel Graphic extreme, and another client, laptop p4 with mobility Radeon.

you using a SDTV or HDTV?
cause last I heard was a person with a 3400+ and 9800 PRO was getting tearing/stuttering

man either these people that say they get no stuttering/tearing are trying to compensate for something or they are using a SDTV

It's a sage client running on my secondary monitor on my desktop machine, just an 18" LCD running at 1280x1024 (using ultramon to redefine the secondary monitor as primary -- because tv programs seem to want the primary monitor).

yeah I have one question for you
what decoder are you using ?
if it is elecard
it does not support DXVA so VMR9 rendering is no biggie

if it is another decoder please let me know if in the decoder setting(the control panel if it is a decoder pack)/DVD program if you have DXVA/hardware acceleration enabled

and do you ever watch sports?
