Is this copy freely? - channel info
When I bring up the Comcast DVR diagnostic window with current channel status, all of my channels display this information.
CCI: 0x00 APS: 0x00 RC Flag: 0x00 CIT: 0x00 DRM: 0x01 RS: FOREVER Picture attached. I believe the CCI: 0x00 means copy freely flag is set. DRM: 0x01 might reflect that all channels, even basic, are encrypted meaning NOT clear QAM. Am I correct about this? My Sage vr. 7 HTPC broke and I am planning to build a new one from scratch with SageTV vr. 9 and HDHomeRun Prime cable card tuner. I would appreciate your input about this before I purchase the HDHomeRun. I have a Comcast Digital Economy Package in Everett Washington, near Seattle. |

You are probably correct about the clear QAM, but I do not know for sure. I have not had clear QAM channels with Comcast for about 3 or 4 years (how old is my oldest Ceton box? I forget). Your screen print shows a channel that is not copy-once, and could be recorded with a cablecard and a HDHR Prime.
With Comcast, I'd assume they completed their move away from clear QAM, nationwide, a year or two ago. I retired the HD Homeruns and moved to cablecard-compatible boxes when that happened. Only the premium channels and a small number of others are encrypted / copy-once (HBO, MAX, SHO, STZ, Encore, MGMHD). I'd guess, with the Digital Economy Package, a cablecard and a Prime would work for you.

Thank you very much for responding. I put together my first HTPC using SageTv in 2008. I’m really looking foreward to adding another chapter to this long and complicated story. |
