Stupd Question: SageOS?

Stupid question of the day...

Is there a distro with SageTV packaged in? I'm thinking something along the lines of MythBuntu. Does it exist?

Check out unRaid. Primarily meant to be a parity protected file server, however it has recently sprouted an impressive application server component. Stuckless has a dedicated forum for Sage in a docker on unRaid. Along with OpenDCT, it worth checking out.

I took a look at what the active developers were using and unRAID seemed to be it.

It took a moment to understand the whole docker thing, but it turned out to be super easy to set up.

That is one of my main reasons for using it - along with the fact that I wanted to be able to use more than 1GB for my JVM heap size to run more extenders and you can only do that with Linux and 64 bit Java. And if going to Linux for your server then you may as well use unRAID.

The SageTV Docker is what you are looking for. Run it on unRAID, and it's a perfect setup. Additionally, it allows the system to very easily be used for a very large number of other tasks as well.

Does this have both server and a client? Can I plug my TV into an unRAID server and view Sage?

no, unRAID is primarily designed as a headless server (for pretty much all it's functions). That said, it does support hardware passthrough (on capable hardware) so you COULD run windows in a VM, passing through a graphics card to it, and use that as a client if you wish. I think the ideal solution for most going forward, however, is a headless server (on unRAID) accessed via either SageTV Extenders or an Android TV box connected to the TV.
