Windows 10 Docker host network

So... does anyone have the SageTV docker working with Windows 10 creators update and 'docker for windows' ? this is the version that uses hyper-v for containers.

The issue seems to be that the 'host' network doesn't work. I've read that it actually creates a NATed network, but hoping there is a solution?

If you have it working and you could point me in the right direction I'd appreciate it.

If it can be made to work I doubt it would be worth running. Docker on Windows is basically a kludge. Because Docker is a Linux technology Docker on Windows runs a Linux installation in, as you have indicated, a Hyper-V VM. That VM has it's own processor and memory limits.

On Linux Docker applications appear as if they are running without it and have access to all processor and memory resources unless specifically limited.

For those reasons, IMHO, if you're going to run the SageTV Docker you're better off just running it on Linux. Docker on Windows works best as a test platform.

I'm guessing that 'host' mode still works as far as the docker container is concerned, but the Linux VM the docker is running on is probably routed through a NAT. I'm not entirely familiar with docker on windows, but the one time I tried to use it I think it used VirtualBox to host the VM. If that is still the case, you can possibly edit the network config on that VM to connect to the host network.

In windows 10, can you not simply install docker via the bash shell? I don't think the bash shell is a "vm" (is it? -- I thought MS did something innovative other than spin up a vm)

I've tried this before. The Docker client software runs fine in Windows Linux Mode but the server itself will not run. So unless you plan on running Windows native Docker containers you do need some sort of Linux VM to run the Docker server if you are just absolutely dead set on running Linux Docker containers on Windows.
