Basically it finds all airings that match favorites you have created and all upcoming airings to a that match intelligent recording "agents" that SageTV has created based on what you have been watching and other criteria. This data is what Scheduler uses to know what it needs to record.

Edit: When I hear Carny, I think of Carnivore and Narflex has said that's where he got the name from.

It somewhat bothers me that the services within SageTV don't have more self descriptive names. Carny isn't the only one that has a weird name.

I realize SageTV wasn't intended originally to be open sourced but my philosophy of programming is even if what you're creating is for yourself you always write the code as if someone with no knowledge of your code will eventually be using it.

Whenever I see "Seeker has awoken" in the log I always think of Dune.

I like to think that the naming of things is a reflection of Jeff's personality and when this program was first written, an open source collaboration was the last thing on his mind. I used to write programs with somewhat whimsical names, but when you go back and try to follow the code, you tend to forget what things are when you do that. I now try to be fairly descriptive to a point and boring when naming classes and variables.

I updated to Java 1.8 today, and also the latest release of SageTV (with the new carny improvements).

With nothing recording/playing and the SageTV service running for about 20 minutes, the CPU usage is hovering around 0-2%

Great job EnterNoEscape!

Edit: After giving it another 10 minutes, the CPU usage is now pegged at 0%. No spikes at all unless something is done in SageTV.

I'm glad this is working so well for you. I had to read your edit 3 times because I don't know many people that would describe 0% as pegged.
