MVP Beeps When sitting idle

Since upgrading to v6 my MVP now beeps every few minutes when not doing anything. I can see the SageTV screen saver and when i push a button on the remote and start playing something it goes back to normal w/o any beeps while it's playing something back. Actually I'm fairly certain that this is only happening when the screen saver is displaying.

Anyone else notice anything like this?

Audio Beeps and other oddities

I am getting audio 'beeps' that are immediately followed by volume fluctuations once again.. seems we saw this on a previous beta, but it had gone away with the last release. I also am seeing 10-30 second hangs when navigating through any menu that has the thumbnails.. While I love the thumbnails, they aren't really needed on the 'Sage Recordings' menu as what they usually show is some segment of commercial anyhow... is there a way to NOT display those thumbnails in that particular menu area?

Overall my MVP seems to be performing better than it had though.. much more responsive.. So far..

My MVP just sitting by itself showing the screensaver started beeping. Not constant, just every once in a while, it beeps. So far, never during a show - just when idle.

I just upgraded to v6

any ideas?

I had this happen to me in ver 5 with various versions of the mvp.bin. But so far I haven't heard it yet in ver 6. I have 2 MVPs. An older version and a newer one.

I think you must have accidentally entered the key sequence for the 7-day self destruct countdown.

On a more serious note. If you enable debug_logging on the server, it will document transactions between the server and the MVP. If you can keep track of when a couple of beeps occur, you might find something in the log to correlate with it. Probably useless, but it's something to try, anyway.

Aloha,
Mike

I also hear the beeps (well more like blips) on my 3 MVPs.

Beeps and going crazy are totally unrelated.

Sometimes they are actually more like honks. loud buggers.

Both of my MVPs have the "beep" issue. Has anybody officially reported this bug?

I get 'blips' too, but its so random its really hard for me to nail down.

Has anybody been able to correlate the beep with an event log or anything else?

Yes. Fortunetly, it doesn't seem as bad as version 5 with the "alpha" mvp.bin.

Thank God you all are having the problem too! Few days went by and nobody responded to my post so if figured I was just going crazy!

And what StuntMan said - I'd really like to be able to disable those thumbnails. They are more annoying then useful.

We are aware of this problem and are working to try to figure out. It's really a weird one. And there's no correlation whatsoever to when it happens. We've seen it in every possible case. So don't go crazy trying to figure out when it happens. Leave that up to us.

Can we make this a priority? I'm starting to notice this happening more and more frequently.

I've had this for awhile now.

I'm not running 6 yet (upgrading to beta is a no no during fall rush ). So be assured while you may still be going nuts, the audio pops and screeches are actually there

the beeps are in v5 also, but happens a lot more in v6. And as Narflex stated, its totally random. I noticed it beeps when playing a video, or just navigating the menu without playback of any video, and it beeps when the screensaver is running.

I hope this gets fixed soon, my dog freaks out everytime he hears it.

I never saw this with the default mvp.bin with version 5. It doesn't happen often for me when video is playing.

I'm running the new v6.012 beta and it seems to beep even more now so I assume they haven't figured out whats causing it yet. Some time I hear static and screeches also, its getting a bit annoying. Hope they get to the bottom of this and fix it.
