Problem Updating to the Newest Build on Ubuntu
Disclaimer - Linux noob here. Also, this is more of a linux than sagetv question but I can not find a clear answer on this with linux searchs.
I had a running version of sagetv-server on a Ubuntu 14.04 machine which had been working well for months. Both my opendct and sagetv-server versions were several releases back so I decided to update them to the latest. I first stopped both opendct and sagetv-server. Then I used this command to update opendct: sudo dpkg -i "package" "package" indicating I used the current opendct package name I had downloaded from the links provided. This appeared to finish fine and all looked well. Then I used this command to update sagetv-server: sudo dpkg -i "package" "package" again indicating I used the current sagetv-server package name I had downloaded from the links provided. This appeared to start off just fine and eventually reached a point indicating it was starting the service. The screen sat there for some time and appeared to be hung so I did a ctl-c to exit the process. Upon exiting I received an error (something about a subprocess error) that I unfortunately did not write down. i then restarted the opendct Service and actually rebooted the machine. all appeared to come up fine and I was able to connect to the box from a client and watch TV and imported movies just fine so all appeared to be fine. Later I went to install a software update to other things and these appeared to hang. They appeared to be attempting to start the sagetv-server service as part of their install though they had absolutely nothing to do with sagetv-server. It appears that the install (probably because I stopped it?) failed to fully complete and clean up and it being called to finish steps that are still open. I also tried one or two things suggested on the web and was brought to the "Enter your SageTV EPG Key screen" which I really did not understand. So, soory for being vague but my question is if my install is working fine though it appears to have actually stopped short of completeing the update install, is there a way to clear out any unfinished steps from the install at this time? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated as it looks like I will have issues installing or updating other packages if they hang and attempt to finish the sage install. Thanks in advance for any help. |

Still a linux newb here with my server running on a Ubuntu 14.04 machine. So I asked the above question some time back and never got an answer. I am now upgrading to the latest version of Sagetv and below is the text from the terminal window. After the line "Main is starting" the install moves the cursor to the next line and just stops. The install never returns to the "sagetv@SageTVServer:~/Downloads$" command prompt and this has been this way for 20 minutes.
Historically when this has happened and I eventually tried to stop with a Control-C I had the issues from the post above so I am reluctant to exit with a Control-C. Any thoughts on how to get this to complete and close out normally? sagetv@SageTVServer:~/Downloads$ sudo dpkg -i sagetv-server_9.1.6_amd64.deb |

In my very limited experience this is normal. Press enter and you are done.
Sage is actually started. k

Thanks for the note. Unfortunately hitting enter does not appear to do anything other than move the cursor down a line. It does not return you to the prompt. Hitting Control-C does abort the process and returns me to the prompt and yes, sage is running at this point. Doing this though presents me with a "dpkg: error processing package (--configure): subprocess installed post-installation script was interrupted" error. At this point it appears that the post-installation script never finished and is now called back up when I do system updates with the Updater module. It unfortunately does not clear even after this so it is a major issue impacting my ability to update other things including the kernel.
This said, I have this issue on two different systems in two different locations. I would really like to get to the bottom of this as it has been present since I built the systems and it is something that has made me reluctant to do upgrades as new releases with fixes and features come out. Any other thoughts? Last edited by phantomii; 08-28-2017 at 08:19 AM. |
