No live TV Mode option?
I've read the FAQ and I am pretty sure I know the answer, but I just wanted to ask in the forums if there was ANY way of making Sage use a "realtime" video mode where is does not buffer.
I love using Sage as my HPTC front end, but I also have an xbox connected to the system and I can't display it on my 36" monitor without piping it through the PC. Currently I switch to Dscaler to play xbox, but I really wish there was a live TV mode so I could keep it all "inside" Sage's UI. TIA |

Actually the PVR cards all have a live uncompressed video mode (which is what Dscaler probably uses), but Sage does not use it -- and probably will not ever use it. Sage records everything and then plays it back from disk, which means that there will always be a small delay...

I posted a similar question a while back in one of the forums (maybe not here on the SAGE forum) and got chewed up by the beast and spit out.
It turned ugly real fast with people accusing me of not knowing what a PVR is and that ALL PVR's do have a delay etc..... even though software PVR solutions (ATI comes back to mind) can do it with no delay and allow you to TURN OFF TIME SHIFTING. I would still like to see this feature implimented. I can't see why it cant be, but I can see that it may take a fairly fast system to do it, which is why I bought a new high end system for my HTPC, instead of reusing an old DELL 700MHz PC I have.

The thing is for practical purposes you can't do it with a 250. Hardware encoders work fundamentaly differently than software PVR solutions. With Software PVRs, the software recieves the raw video from the card, so it's quite easy to simply pass it to the display. With hardware cards, the PVR software recieves an already compressed MPEG stream. Getting access to the raw video is either impossible or very difficult depending on the card.
For example, with my PVR 250, I can get live/raw video if I screw around in Graphedit, but I am unable to get "live" audio. If I try Graphedit crashes. Now the Roslyn cards work differently, they seem to be equaly at home as hardware encoders or as standard cards, and last I heard a future version of Sage may support "Live" video with the Roslyn cards. |

you can turn off the delay in WinTV but then you get no deinterlacing at all
looks horrible Sage has said they will support the roslyn livepreview |

Which would bring me to my next question about integrating Dscaler in to the Sage Menu, but unfortunately it looks like I still can't customize the front menu to have an "xbox" entry that launches Dscaler..... damn nothings going my way on this one!
