Upgrade from 7 to 9

Would like to upgrade from 7 to 9 tonight. Running in service mode on w8.1x64 pro, all updates present.

Latest java 8 x86 installed

Should I use the drop-in method or run the installer?

Should I upgrade SageDCT to OpenDCT first (for my HDHomeRun Prime CableCard tuner)?

I use network encoders (R5000HD) any problems to be expected there? I am aiming for minimum downtime.

Would like to continue current EPG while it is still available.

Thanks for your pointers. Hope someone can answer before I start the installation. Will make backup before starting

Back up everything first.
Shut down Sage completely.
Use the latest Windows installer to install v9 over top of v7.
Get that working before changing anything else - one at a time is best.

If you run the installer , I suggest you run the installer twice instead of only once just to be sure the update goes without problems.

I usually do this each time I run the installer or a new update comes out as this used to be the procedure in the past to make sure all the right settings were changed and put in place when updating.

On the second installation choose the repair option and after that you should have no problems since you probably have the decoders already in place from the original installation.

I wont go in to switching to a new tv guide as that is covered elsewhere.

Thanks for both responses. I did that and everything went well. The only thing I could not figure out is how to replicate the recordings view of v7 where they are grouped by title but the groups are sorted by the last recording within that group (descending).

Also live TV watching does not work on some R5000hd channels. Screen stays black but bar at bottom grows green as the underlying .ts file grows.

If you were like me and using the stock setup on version 7 with no plugins I think you mean group like shows together to sort of clean up your view just open up your list of recordings and right click the screen if your using windows and you will be able to get that look back by using the groupings and sorting options from it.

There are other options as well to change the tv guide look too by right clicking it when viewing it as well as I did the same thing to it as well to view the entire times between 8 and 11 pm to show all the data on one screen - also I changed the number of channels to show for my instance to get the most clear way of seeing the channels show up that I actually record the most since I only use over the air tv and there is not much to choose from in my area.

can't help you with the other problem you are having and sorry there.
