Android emulator?

Is there a particular Android Emulator that will run the open-source Miniclient satisfactorily? I wanted to see how it works, but don't have an Android device just yet. I downloaded Bluestacks, but couldn't figure out how to install the Miniclient.

I haven't used BlueStacks or can attest to its performance but if you want to install the miniclient: download the apk from here (files tab) and install in BlueStacks using method #2 or #3 here.

Another option is to use the official emulator distributed with Android Studio and adb install the apk to a running Android TV AVD (or whatever device type you're interested in).

I tried the drag & drop, but it wouldn't take it.

I'm not sure use in an emulator is going to give you any sort of idea on how the miniclient is going to perform on actual hardware. If you are interested in the interface, it is exactly the same as an extender or windows client, and is dependent on the STV and plugins you have installed.

Yeah, I agree with Fuzzy... I use the Android Studio android emulator for development, and things work... but even on a tripped out core i7 desktop the emulator is sluggish compared to running an old Nexus Player.

As Fuzzy said... in terms of user experience... it'll the be the same as HD300, but given that the remote generally only have 7 buttons, it is going to give a different experience, and might take some getting used to... or some people have opted to use something like FLIRC and use a traditional remote. (I just suck it up and use the remote that comes with the box).
