New Cable company, no audio via colossus
So today I switched to bright house from frontier and hooked up the new cable box to the hauppauge Colossus 2 and for some reason I'm getting no audio whatsoever via SageTV. I even loaded one of the recording files in VLC to ensure that it's not some issue with an audio decoder and the recording does not have any audio. The crazy thing is if I fire up the Colossus capture software the audio comes through fine, so I have no clue what could be going on here. My system is SageTV v. 9.0.4 running on a Windows 10 machine. I checked the sage logs and found nothing, either...

Are you sure you picked the right audio input in the SageTV config process for the device? There's 2 options...one for Component (which uses analog audio) and one for Component+SPDIF.

Yep, I had the same thought, but I tried both setups for component and neither one produces audio, though the hauppauge tool does play audio in the "component" selection and not "component+spdif".

I'm not sure then...I'd think maybe it's a lack of an AAC audio decoder in SageTV (since Colossus uses that format for analog inputs)...but if it has no sound in VLC either, then that's likely not the issue.
You could turn on debug logging in Detailed Setup->Advanced and post the sagetv_0.txt file from when you reproduce, maybe I'll see something you didn't in it.

So today I noticed that the cable box has an optical output... so I wired it up to see if it worked and it did... doesn't really solve the original issue, but hey... it's at least working now w/ Component+SPDIF.

There is a patch that must be installed to get it to work correctly- there is a post somewhere on these forums from SHS that includes the patch and instructions.

Thanks, however... I did that awhile ago. This same colossus 2 has been working fine for ages with the exact same setup, the only thing that changed is the cable box & provider.
