Sorry, I answered before coffee. I didn't mean HTTP, I meant IP.

Previously I was using EventGhost on a PC to run a script using "ncat" to send the messages, but VeraAlerts does the same thing directly. The developer is also very active on the Vera forums.

What that means is that some of the open source automation (and even control 4) can leverage the Vera as a z-wave controller and add other functions that the vera doesn't support. I used Eventghost to do almost every function you are wanting in my theater, even z-wave control. That coupled with the vera make a pretty powerful and cheap solution.

I would imagine that eventghost can also talk to URC devices as they have plugins for just about everything.

Home Assistant is one that can tell if you are using your chromecast or plex to watch something and on what device. Not that you'll need that, but it is there.

Homeseer is a very nice piece of software, I just need to get better supported hardware before I justify the price.
